freitasm: iPhone 5 now available outright and prepaid on Telecom NZ:

The iPhone 5 will be available to buy outright in selected Telecom stores and online at www.telecom.co.nz/iphone for a suggested retail price of $1029 for the 16GB model, $1199 for the 32GB model and $1349 for the 64GB model.

Customers who buy the iPhone outright can make the most of Telecom’s $19 prepaid pack – New Zealand’s best prepaid offer with 500MB of data, 60 anytime minutes and 5000 texts for only $19 per month. Telecom announced yesterday it’s extending the $19 pack through until March and offering free calls and texts between Telecom customers for those on the pack.

Question is whether this is excess stock from the first batch, or a later batch?

I think it makes a difference - I think that the earlier batches are more likely to have cosmetic issues. There seem to be a significant number of cases (see MacRumors for instance), and it would be logical that Apple/Foxconn have been/will be working on reducing these occurrences.

That's what my last post in the previous page is about... It's even quoted at the top of this page. You seem to have missed it.

Well I had an epic fail with the cutting of my micro sim. So now got no phone till nano sim arrives (FYI just called up vodafone helpdesk and they are sending me one for free). Don't know what I did wrong with the cutting, it is too small now. Cut a little too much off. Tried taping it to the sim tray so it stays in position but won't register on 5.

Any updates on stock levels? Telecom Twitter didn't help me. Otherwise will just call stores in the morning.

Just found out that it actually has one stuck pixel. just emailed them

How do they deal with returns? I heard they send you a new one while you still have your current one and they put a hold on your cc?

Did you use a microscope looking for issues?

My iPhone finally turned up about 3:30 pm on Tuesday, along with some more adapters I'd ordered later, which arrived in Wellington about noon. The iPhone looks to be a good one: no significant blemishes around the edges or back, and no sign of dead pixels. Vodafone transferred my account to the nano-SIM via a phone call to customer support, all up and running once setup complete and backup restored.

My two friends got their iPhones on Monday afternoon, and my brother's one arrived on Tuesday morning. At least one of them came via NZ Couriers, so TNT must have farmed some out to deal with the workload. Mine and my brother's had been out for delivery on Monday but they ran out of time and ended up back in the warehouse.

My TNT courier said he had delivered about 150 iPhones on Monday (on top of other deliveries), plus another 50 or so on Tuesday. I don't know how many drivers in total for Wellington, but the same guy has visited me four times in the last few weeks for each part of this order, so they appear to be allocated certain areas within a larger region.

I'd rung TNT on Monday to try to get an ETA but they didn't know. I was hoping to get my iPhone in time to demo it at a meeting on Monday night, but that didn't eventuate. Luckily my friend's one had arrived, so we had at least one to show.

An interesting tidbit from that call to TNT: the woman I spoke to was in their Christchurch call centre, and she said that there were about 300 iPhones TNT had farmed off to other companies for Christchurch delivery, plus they had about another 300 they were delivering themselves. Earlier, TNT had been warned to expect a batch of about 2500 iPhones for nationwide delivery (not sure if it was this batch, but it seems likely).
