Hi all,

I dropped my iPhone 5 a few days ago and the front glass got cracked.
Now I need to find a repairer, preferably located in Auckland areas, that has iPhone 5 spare parts at reasonably affordable price.
I tried to repair it at Advanced Computers but they charged like $499 so I cancelled it.

Does anyone know a good repairer around Auckland?
FYI, I bought my iPhone from my friend so I have no idea where he bought it from.

I emailed iDoctor (www.iDoctor.co.nz) because on their website they say they can replace the front LCD & digitiser for only $249.
The guy, named Mikael, replied me that I need to send it over to Hellensvile and yes, the final price is $249.
Has anyone used iDoctor's service before? Are they trusted repairer?

To sum up, here are my questions:
1. Does anyone know any repairer around Auckland that can replace iPhone 5 front glass at affordable price?
2. Has anyone ever used iDoctor's service? Are they trusted and by no means a fraud?

Thank you for your attention and assistance!

Not sure how they can do it for $249 the lowest price I've seen on the screens is more than that in US dollars are you sure they've quoted you for the iPhone 5?

I'd been to several mobile phone stores in Auckland CBD area, including PBTech and Yobee, they didn't have the spare parts for iPhone 5 or otherwise they can do it for a super expensive price, around $500. The guy in Yobee recommended me to go to The Core in Newton Road, Auckland but The Core don't repair iPhone 5 atm as well.

So please advice, guys? Should I go with $500 to replace the LCD or should I wait until the spare parts evenly distributed so the price might go down?

Thanks

You quote a source for others to confirm your assertion, but then go to the effort to break the address, then add a line about how to fix the broken address?

Why why why?

Phone your insurance company, and see what they can do for you.

If you wait for spare parts prices to come down, your phone will drop in value in the meantime, and you will also not have the use of it.

Because I'm a new member and apparently I'm not allowed to post links atm.

Thanks for the advice but I don't think my insurance covers this kind of accident.

Oh newbies can't do links eh... STBY. My apologies.

Phone your insurance company and ask.

My last three claims were really dumb stuff, and my insurance company covered me, and didn't charge excess, and I didn't have a rise in premium (or a loss of discount).

Give them a chance.

Wow, when the cost price of the part is higher than the cost of the repair and half the cost of anyone else in town I have to wonder what's up, however they have been around for a while guess it's up to you if you want to give it a go.

You could always do an out of warranty replacement direct with apple circa $400 for the 5 from memory.

I just called Apple and apparently they're willing to replace my iPhone 5 with a brand new one for $364 (im still under warranty until November 2013 FYI). I think it's a good deal. Thoughts?

I'd take it!!!

I wonder if it really will be a brand new one, or just a refurbished one?

I saw a flyer for PB tech a few days ago, and I recall it had a screen replacement promotion for the iphone or ipad for about $150. Not exactly sure on the details, but you could contact them

Not using genuine spares is one way "The replacement screens we use are more structurally sound than the original parts designed by Apple."

Look, the Apple guy asked my credit card details as well as the security card, and I gave it away including name, exp date and the numbers. Is it the normal procedure? Or did I just put myself in jeopardy?

They authorise the $364 on your card then send out a courier pack to pick the phone up then in about 2 weeks you'll get your new one after that the will do the full charge against your card and reverse the authorisation.
