I have been reading about the new t-mobile unlimited plan for $70 in the US and considering it for my holiday. To me it would be ideal to be able to purchase this for my Ipad and just use the straight talk from Walmart for calls and the Iphone. Does anyone know if T-mobile do a prepaid option, as of yesterday I was likely going to go with AT & T and get 3GB prepaid for $30, which I may still go with when I decide what my usage will be. I plan on using the ipad for navigation, surfing, e-mails, uploading photo's to face book and playing games. I know a little more than nothing but not much...

It depends on whether your ipad supports the t-mobile frequencies. I know I couldn't use my nz purchased iphone on t-mobile. Not sure if ipads are the same, or whether t-mobile still use the same freqs.

In this vein looking to purchase an "unlimited data" plan for virgin mobile UK for my upcoming trip. My question though is will my current viber work on a different Simcard? Assume it will - apologies for hijack OP

My understanding is the "unlimited" plan is not available on prepay When I was in the UK recently the Virgin Mobile unlimited was available prepay

I understand you will only get 2G in many places in the US with T-Mobile. Look into an AT&T SIM if you want 3G. You can get 1GB of data and unlimited calls and SMS (inc SMS to NZ) for $65 on AT&T Prepaid (Go Phone). For another $10 you can add 250 mins back to NZ or other countries if you need them too. http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/plans/prepaidplans.html thanks for that I have been googling at lunch time and seen this plan with AT&T seeing that I am travelling with my Ipad and will likely add 3GB data plan to that I wouldn't really use over 1gb on the iphone, I think this is the way to go, besides there is an AT&T store quite close to where we are staying! I know a little more than nothing but not much...

If you get a straighttalk sim and your iPhone is jailbroken you could get a app off cydia and tether on the straighttalk simcard. I had a friend that was over in the USA for 6 weeks and he tethered (obviously not large amounts of data but to use his iPad) and didn't have any problems.

dickytim: just use the straight talk from Walmart for calls and the Iphone. Just so that you're aware: The official Straight Talk iPhone plan requires you to buy the iPhone from Straight Talk (Walmart) directly. If you put a Straight Talk SIM into a "generic" iPhone then you won't get the APN settings etc. automatically and will need to configure it manually. Edit: And you'll need to cut the SIM down to nano size if you're using an iPhone 5.

Thanks all for the advise on changing the APN, there is a site where I can down load them from www.unlockit.co.nz Looking at the offerings and the fact that I will not use more than 3gb data on the Ipad and 1gb I am better off going with AT&T for both, that way I can sort it out during my stop over in Honolulu, atleast that gives me a mission for the 5 hours between flights! I know a little more than nothing but not much...

Yes.. thats mine :-) and it 1st started with some help/testing from some Geekzone People :-) Over the last few years its grown from 100 to 50,000+ unique iPhone users per day using the website . If you want "unlimited" data (in the USA) then Straighttalk is the place to go to but its not really unlimited, it is reasonable use unlimited. (they will disable your data is you use it excessively) . They are a MVNO of AT&T so every AT&T locked iPhone from the states works with them). Net10 also offers the same thing and are exactly the same.
