Apple is like a box of chocolates ... arrgh

So i thought backup iphone means you get everything back

To my horror upon restoring all my apps (games) did not resurrect and everything was lost

How does one backup and restore including all apps and saved app stuff?

When you do a backup, it copies all your user settings, saved games, etc. The software itself should copy from your phone to your computer when you synch.

If you have lost your apps, then open up iTunes, go to Store, click Purchases on the right, and choose Apps. You will be able to redownload them for free.

Also noticed music is missing.

How do you get the apps into the sync section of iTunes in the first place? There is nothing there

Everything gets restored, only it takes time.

When doing a restore, the iPhone will appear usable while the iTunes still reinstalling apps and other info. You need to leave the iPhone alone at that point. If you interrupt that process it will not complete the restore.

Go into Purchases on your computer and see whether they show up there. If not, make sure that you're signed into the correct account.

your statement probably refers to icloud restore.

it is certainly not true with itunes restore i don't know where you get the idea from ... if it's true then my itunes is faulty

I always use iTunes, not icloud. Only ever failed to restore once, exactly for the reason I described.

This may be a dumb question, but are there any apps on your computer for it to sync?

joker97: for the 3rd time, no.

I think we're having a communication breakdown here because you haven't mentioned this at all until now (at least not by the name that I'm expecting). There are two separate areas in iTunes.

1. The "Apps" section in the sidebar lists all of the apps that you have on your computer. This is the one that I'm asking about.
2. Inside the "[Your Name]'s iPhone" section there's a tab called Apps, with a "Sync Apps" list.

#1 should contain all of your apps. If you went into Purchased on your computer and redownloaded your apps then they should be in here. If you redownloaded them on the phone directly then you should right-click your phone in the sidebar and select Transfer Purchases to copy them across.

Once you have them showing up in Apps, then they should automatically appear in Sync Apps too.

i am afraid of transfer purchases because the two times i clicked on it the apps and data disappeared from my iphone. it appeared in the sync apps but putting them back to phone didnt give any saved data so after the 2nd time completely disabled sync
