spk18: Yes I am into it, I am an iPhone 4S owner but don't have a tablet currently - especially now I have found an App that means I can access my company's MS Sharepoint site easily on Office 365 (SharePlus).  Obviously could access through the browser anyway but the dedicated app is preferable.

Overseas for 5 weeks later this year so will take this instead of a laptop.  Can't wait!

Big issue now is what case/keyboard to buy LOL.

I will look at 64GB white iPad but given we have no LTE in NZ I am either going to have to pay for a feature I cannot use in NZ, or be constrained to 16GB on a 3G version.  This is probably one of the biggest conundrums to resolve I guess - be interested in other people's views on that point in particular?

OK I am an idiot... misread the specs/price, was iPad2 @ 16GB with new pricing and iPadNew... so no conundrum at all.  Just get 4G for 'nothing' I guess as I don't expect NZ telcos to roll out 4G anytime soon, though I might be wrong.

The 3G has also been increased to 21mbit so there is a gain there for 3G data

jofizz: Yes definitely upgrading from my first gen iPad. All saved up!

Little disappointed the camera is not as good as dear wife's iPhone 4S.
Also no Siri? What's up with that, I don't understand.
Bit sad also there is no 128GB model! All those pix and videos will chew up my free space, will have to remove some apps as my 64 is pretty much constantly full.

Otherwise looks great, can't wait to see the new display.

Related: best place to buy? Online preorder when available or queue up early on release day?
Will def be getting 4G/64 GB beast. And a smart cover. No new smart covers for 3rd gen?

Cheers,
Joseph

Smart covers will fit as iPad2 and new one are the same externally. I'm going to check user reviews before buying, just in case there is an issue

It is thicker than the ipad 2, so potentially the angles could be different, so the 2 cover may not workon the 3. But I would expect them to work.

I have a 2 so don't really need to upgrade but I'm sure that once I see the new display I will soon change my mind. Shiny shiny pixels and so many of them!

I normally budget to replace my unit every two years and I'm happy with what was announced today so I will be upgrading my original iPad. It's not urgent enough to bother with a pre order, so I will probably just get one when JB Hifi get stock in. My current unit is a 64Gb 3G so I will get the same again.

I am a fandroid through and through make no mistake, but I can pretty much guarantee I will buy a new ipad over a android tablet in the upcoming months simply because it will just work as it should, battery life will be good, it will be wife friendly and have a plentiful supply of HD apps surface in the upcoming months.

I would pick a AOS phone any day of the week but with tablets I just cant bring myself to follow suite

Kiwipixter: I'll get one as soon as I figure out how to stream MKVs from my media centre.

Air Video is my app of choice for this. My media machine is a mac, btw.
Very good app, the mac does all the heavy lifting and converts the video on the fly.

Cheers,
Joseph

I'll be getting the new iPad for the higher resolution screen. I have an original iPad and didn't bother to upgrade to the iPad 2 as the screen was no improvement. Original iPad goes to wife.

David.

The official line is by the end of May, but as to how widespread the retail availability will be at that point is anyone's guess. I'll buy one if and when I can walk straight in and out of JB Hifi with the particular model I want, and if I have to wait a month or two in order to do that then so be it.

What is the source for the May date?
The slides in the keynote say March 23 for New Zealand.

(I will only be upset if I am wrong as I don't want to wait any longer! Bought my 1st gen iPad first week it was available, have been hanging out to upgrade!)

Cheers,
Joseph

Edit 2... Why can't I add a nicely formed link using my iPad, argh! (not manually editing HTML)

It appears my MIL (mother-in-law) got an iPad 2 on the 7th for her birthday (the buyer doesn't follow tech news so didn't know about iPad 3)... does anyone know if there's gonna be a rebate whereby a new model is released "moments later" and if you have purchased the prior within X weeks you get some $$$ back?

Sorry, that was either a typo or auto-correct going ferral. It was supposed to read 'end of March'.
