Message when 2degrees sim is inserted
only compatible sim cards form a supported carrier maybe used to activate iphone

This sounds like this... And as posted above. 2degrees is not a supported operator, can't you use a Vodafone or Telecom SIM to activate the phone and then swap with your 2degrees SIM?

Sure but Telecom was also an unsupported carrier for quite some time and it always activated on them.

Yes, but this could be a new thing Apple put in there, like HP did with their web OS.

I have tried this, when you put a new sim card in the phone it goes to logo and then returns to start up and locks phone out saying the same message, sim carrier not supported.

If I bought an iphone from apple it would work on 2 degrees, and if I put my 2 degrees sim into someone else's vodafone iphone it works as well, it just seems to be the replacement iphones. Where are they getting them from and what are they doing to them before they reach the customer?

Did you follow Apples directions that I sent you?

Yes, but in order for this to work the carrier must first complete an unlock on the phone. Then you can restore the phone using itunes and the carrier will cease to be locked. I need vodafone to complete an unlock on this phone. This will not happen as vodafone say this phone is not locked and it was never suggested that it would work on 2degrees.

Vodafone NZ do not have the facilities to perform an unlock on any iPhone as they do not lock them. Please just try restoring the phone (without restoring back to a backup at the end).

In the process of doing this, I have done this before to no effect. I have tried restoring phone as a new phone as well with and without the sim card in it. If there was a jailbreak out I would cut my loses and hack the phone however no such luck. I am just confused as to why the two replacement phones that I have encountered aren't supported on the 2degrees network and yet every other iphone works on 2degrees with no problems.

Vodafone NZ does not have any facilities available to them to unlock iPhones.

Why do you bring up the CGA when it's not even required?, Please go and read the CGA and understand it!

I would go in again but I believe I will just get another phone that doesn't work properly. The sales person at vodafone said I was lucky to get a new replacement as not working on another carrier is not a reason to send it back, it is almost like, well tough luck you will have to use it on our carrier.

I am very grateful for the help. I was hoping that their was going to be a simple solution but it looks like I will have to switch carrier or sell the phone.

Clearly the phone is not being fixed, are you saying it is working?
