I'm looking to buy a new iPad (not mini). I know the price of these are strongly controlled by Apple, but does anyone know if the prices are likely to come down over the Christmas period? Or does Apple just... not do that?
Alternatively, if any geekzoners have one to sell I'm interested.
Toys: Samsung Galaxy S2 (Telecom), iPad 4, Roku, iPod Touch 4, Dell Inspiron 17R SE laptop, Sony 40CX520 TV, TiVo x2, Snap ADSL.

If you can find a 3 (which was called 'the new ipad') some retailers were selling them for around the ipad 2 price, and they were teh same screen res as the ipad 4. I doubt there will be any sales on them at christmas, as they are in demand and I haven't seen apple devices cheaper in the sales.
The prices for retail models remain static until a new version comes out. The only deals that may come along are in the form of interest free financing from the likes of Harvey Norman....most of the time they exclude apple products but once or twice a year they include them.
Other than that you can try the refurb store on the Apple Online store. They sell fully refurbished and tested products at a discount with standard warranties included.
In recent years the NZ Apple store online has had black friday sales. From memory their discounts aren't huge, but they're about as good as you're going to get on an Apple product.
It might be worth waiting to see what they have to offer.
Quite a good buy really, some advantages of a refurb is that every unit is quality checked, has a new screen, back and battery, so is as good as a new device.
Dick Smith also seem to have some available still at a discount price, albeit slightly more than the Apple Stores refurb units, but the DSE ones are new.
I know a little more than nothing but not much...
