After an older macbook. Macbook pro preferred but will look at anything that runs el Capitan. It's for my son as a byod for school, we are currently borrowing a friend's 2008 one and works great for him but need his own one.

So if you have one, beaten up or whatever please let me know.

I've got a 2006 or 2007 (will have to check) MacBook (black) that has been lying around for a couple of years. Not sure of condition now (I got a new battery for it a couple of years ago but then never used it!) but it definitely goes. Will have to check battery life etc. Was planning on upgrading the RAM and setting it up for use around the house but never got around to it.

If you're not in a rush I can check it this weekend and let you know. I'm in Auckland. Thanks.

I have an old Unibody Macbook (not Pro) Late 2008 lying around. The battery is completely spent, so you're only going to get 5 minutes of use if it isn't plugged in at the wall, and the fan will spin up if you do anything at all on it, but it works about as well as you could hope for a laptop that old.

My 2013 13" MacBook Pro with Retina will be needing a new home soon. Served me very well through uni and I just need one with a bigger display now.
4GB RAM, 128GB SSD and 2.4GHz i5 CPU. Don't really want to list it on TradeMe because of crazy fees so if you're keen PM me. Comes with a hardshell case and I've never used it without so it's near on new looking.

Thanks for the reply tardtasticx. That sounds like a really nice laptop but I suspect out of my budget.

I have an Apple MacBook Pro "Core i5" 2.3 13" Early 2011 which has been sitting around for a couple of years; West Auckland.

Condition not too bad:

  • Minor scratches / scuffs.
  • Minor dent on lid.
  • Missing 1x rubber pad on bottom + lid has a bit of play exactly like this one.
  • Charger cord has been "repaired" a few times, could use a new charger.
  • Currently has stock 4GB RAM (2x2GB DDR3 1333Mhz) and 320GB HDD.

Bumping again. The above were just a bit out of our budget. Specifically the 2011 one. We are just after something cheap and well used

There are definitely a few on TradeMe under the $300 mark that will run El Capitan:

Otherwise as I mentioned you could go the Hackentosh route with something like an HP ProBook 4530s for under $300 on TM.
