Hi, I am gonna pick up a simcard.  Should be taking my Nokia which I will download the maps onto it first and I will enable AGPS.

Unlike NZ, the prepaid sims can come in per hour or per MB.  Which one is suited and if I am using GPS for several hours a day, how much is it??

From the two.
$8/hour or $3/MB.

Cheers.

If I am using it several hours a day.  No matter how little data it uses.  Would not that be 5hrs x (say) $8 ... so hourly is more pricey?  If I hear correctly that is they say that aGPS does not really use much data, they say in the KBs.  Maybe MB is better?

my iPhone downloading standard google maps jpg uses like 100kb in a couple of hours on the motorway so i'm guessing a lot less than that for only a-gps data. take the $3 per mb.

I was able to successfully use my Nokia 5800Xm in Offline mode without any data usage earlier this year while I was over there.

Nokia Maps are all offline so there is no need to download data. aGPS only uses a small amount of data every time it's used.

And this can be turned off in the settings too. You really don't need any data for GPS navigation on your Nokia.

I found that in Japan if I turn GPS off and turn it on when I get out of the train it can take a few minutes to get my location.  Given that I am getting a simcard, have people there to meet and contact, that aGPS could be a bonus.
