So, I'm a little confused. I just received this email from Slingshot, who will be increasing the price to $70 for the Unlimited package (I signed up when they had the contract free offer on). Snippet of the email:

Over the next week we will be increasing the amount of bandwidth allocated to your unlimited plan, which means you should notice faster speeds throughout the day. We want to make it easier for you to watch movies, listen to music and do all the things you love online without having to worry about your broadband speeds.

To make this possible, the price of Broadband UNLIMITED is increasing to $70 per month from 23 Aug 2012 , your next bill date.

This increase will help us to improve your home broadband experience and make sure you get the most out of your unlimited plan.

We're also re-introducing Broadband 250, which costs just $60 per month if you have your Homeline with Slingshot. This is a great alternative for those that use less than 250GB of data a month and want to keep paying only $60. If this sounds like you please visit www.slingshot.co.nz and login to My Account to change your plan.

So, I will go up to $70, but the their site is still offering the package at $60 for new customers (on contract this time).

It just seems that I'm now being penalised for signing up during the offer period, for the EXACT same service (sans contract). We're still using the same allocated bandwidth, so why do I have to subsidise the new signups?

Or am I missing something here?

Of course, if they increase the price across the board for new signups too, then it's a moot point :)

I suspect that they haven't yet updated the website.

I'll be running some speedtests now and again in a week or two, hope there are some improvements - would like less buffer time on HD youtube videos!

Hi,

Yes it will be going up for new customers, this email was just to warn existing customers before the price change is implemented.

Thanks,
Ben

Any idea on what sort of speed improvement we are likely to see?

What speeds for type of traffic are you talking about here? Remember slingshot do prioritisation so I'm not sure if Ben will be able to answer that question....

Hi,

No, not at this stage. It is likely going to improve throughput as a whole on this plan but it should mostly affect peak time browing and streaming etc.

Thanks,
Ben

Cheers, Ben. Makes more sense to me now :)

I've been a happy bunny with the service thus far, despite slow downs in the evening. Never had an issue with streaming. So, any improvement is welcome :)

The email I have received said "To make this possible, the price of Broadband UNLIMITED is increasing to $111 per month from 03 Sep 2012 , your next bill date."

I assume it should say my total bundle which include the phone line rather than only the Boardband?? Any one can confirm if slingshot just increase $10 a month for this plan or otherwise that's $111-$60=$51 for me. Undecided

Hi,

As above, yes this refers to the bundle pricing. Apologies for the poor wording.

Thanks,
Ben

Does this just affect the UNLIMITED plan or will it affect the NAKED (UNLTD) plan too ($90 -> $100)?

Hi,

Naked Unlimited plan will remain unaffected.

Thanks,
Ben

Can I change to naked unlimited without going on a contract to save some $$ with this price increase?

Specifically youtube and On Demand, usually when playing back HD streams.
