Hey, I'm on Slingshots 100GB plan, I purchased 2 films tonight, with both downloading it's not even passing 120Kb/s.
I can run speed tests or watch YT videos etc and get line speed down, is this common with iTunes Movies or Slingshot?

Quick edit:
Also if any of you are on Orcon (ADSL or UFB) how are your itunes movie download speeds? Got my fibre connection ready, just waiting on orcon or the installers to fix a tiny issue.

It's not just you - iTunes is stupidly slow for me this week and I'm on Snap. NZ iTunes is cached locally so shouldn't be so stupidly slow. But it is. I've seen others complaining too, from different ISPs.

No problems here with Maxnet so I wonder where the issue is. Do Slingshot and Snap use the same upstream provider?

I noticed till around 1AM the speed was stuck at around 100KB/s. After that it shot up to 1.2MB/s which is about what I would expect. Hmm, Slingshot throttling? lol

iTunes uses Akamai for content distribution. I've noticed that new content takes longer to download than older content. My hypothesis is that old content are already locally available while new content needs to be transferred from another node to a local node therefore first downloaders get it slower than others downloading the same content two days later.

This couldn't obviously explain it all. Remember we are in the middle of a "crisis" where traffic to Asia is slower than normal due to a problem with an under-sea cable linking Perth to Singapore - perhaps the Akamai network uses that route for distribution, if it's cheaper?

If this is happening in more than one ISP I'd be looking at this kind of things.
