You mean the fibre plans featuring Turbo?

They give you a bigger share of the international internet pipe (less of what is known as contention), so that you dont have to compete with other users quite as much. If you are already with Slingshot you will know that things slow down a lot in peak times (evenings); this mitigates this somewhat. No magic, its pretty clear from the product page

so still shaping?  i only tried a capped slingshot connection for a while, and it was far from exchange, and sloowww.. but when churning it it still got faster even at 1 megabit!

i don't think their shaping is very fair per user.  is turbo still shaping, or straight internet?

If you are far from the exchange / cabinet then trying different plans is not really going to help that much

i was at the time, but new cabinet got put in. it was extra bad temporarily while the cabinet was in line or whatever.  i'm more curious than anything.

the ping was good on slingshot llu, but it still seemed sluggish, even for ssh to NZ...

although i seem to remember someone saying that slingshot unlimited was faster, because they had a different bandwidth pool and they'd upgraded bandwidth "in advance"...

If you want to understand why it happened then you should read Are you receiving substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

If you were connected to an exchange, and then a cabinet comes in, your connection will suffer until it's moved out of the ULL gear and connected to the cabinet in a wholesale plan (or another ISP, but again on a wholesale plan).

Yeah I know about that.  It got shifted to telecom wholesale port before that, which was slightly slower.

But it also went from 2 megabit to 1 megabit while it went through the cabinet without terminating at the cabinet.  This is a line that had 50db+ attenuation.  So on the border of ADSL availability.  7km from exchange or something.  9 to 7 megabit wouldn't be nearly as much of an irritation..

I think it got down to 862/734 or something around there.

It wasn't my account, but getting it shifted off Slingshot LLU seemed to be pretty smooth.
