Hey,

My Slingshot broadband keeps dropping the line every few minutes, but sometimes not for a few hours. It's been pretty bad today. Is anybody else experiencing this?

What basic fault checking have you done?

It happens at random, we don't have a fax or monitored alarm, and the 1 phone in the house has an adsl filter on, so I would put it down to their the ISP or the cables (will try another cable tomorrow).

Anyway, interested to see if anybody else is having the same issues.

It could be your wiring, corroded connections at the demarc point... It would help a lot if you posted your modem stats.

Yes. Telstraclear is accessing sites ramdomly. The majority is down.

This has nothing to do with Slingshot, and only affected people running old Paradise DNS servers. It had no impact on customers using the recommended newer TelstraClear DNS servers.

As others have stated, post the stats from your adsl status page on the router. Do an isolation test:
Unplug anything that accesses the phone line, unplug all adsl filters plug your adsl modem directly into the closest socket to where the phone lines come into the house (the adsl modem doesn't require a filter).

It seems to be okay now. It hasn't happened in over 24 hours. It may have been the heavy rain downpour.

Its worth checking your modem to see if you have any errors reported on the DSL line. If it happens again you can check and confirm if its your line or a general problem afecting others.

It's all good now, 2 days without issues, but for the record it was DSL linestate down and the check showed connected on DNS server 2 but not DNS server 1.

I think that "check" was just pinging the DNS server, which doesn't test the connection itself but could point to modem problems. Please post your current ADSL stats such as line datarates, attenuation and SNR (noise margin) because it tells us things like distance of your ADSL line as well as an idea of the line quality. You cant get those stats while the line is down so its good to get them now while its working.

If you suspect it is related to the rain then it might happen again. It is worth having someone coming around to check the wiring, the connection at the demarc poin, the copper to the cabinet/exchange. Or you will live with this happening again any time.

Yup, if you PM me your account or line details I'd like to put the connection on an analyser and take a close look at the line state tests that we have.  It could be something physical (that as you say) is amplified in certain weather conditions - so could happen again.
