I think that ISPs in NZ are pretty much all the same - hopeless. Whilst X person may rate Telecom or Vodafone Y person might have had a terrible experience with them. When I was with Telecom prior to Slingshot they were fine. Then they cancelled their AYCE plan and their alternatives were insulting. Of course things change over time and overall NZ is slowly getting better Internet. Living in an Army camp makes simple things like changing ISP time consuming and frustrating so I try to avoid it if at all possible.

While I love this country we really are backwards about a lot of things. It seems that everybody is just out to rip everyone else off - service be damned. So while my rant was about Slingshot it could just as easily be about any other ISP.

RSK: I appreciate your reply and the fact that you have been able to compare services. However, this has been an endless problem I have found with slingshot when calling on my brother's behalf regardless of known issues the wait time still sems to be extremely long (by this i mean at least 30mins) i shifted my services as i found telecom responsive and yes when there are known outages i am left waiting however it is usually around 15min mark.

I honestly think that if you guys had more staff on deck, that may reduce wait times.

I have had to call them probably 7-10 times since I have become a customer in December and I think the longest I have had to wait is about 10 mins. That is acceptable and in this day and age is par for the course with any utilities company. Of course we all would like to have the call answered instantly but I doubt we'd all like to pay double we currently pay so they could have twice the staff in their call centres. Even though I have been stuffed around by the processes Slingshot has in place, I have been quite impressed by their customer service and the friendly people on the other end of the phone. But if they had the processes right in the first place I probably wouldn't have had to call them at all in the first place!!

The difference between us and Telecom is our helpdesk is only in NZ most of telecoms call centers were labour is cheep.

However its not as simple as hire more people...

Thanks Joe and Bevin, as mentioned i was just adding my 2 cents. However, I do appreciate everyones feedback and agree with TheMantis that most companies these days are the same in NZ after all I have worked for 4 telcos in the last 6 years.

Are you able to advise why the csr said that my brother would have to pay for a new connection in order to move his naked connection and also renew his contract with no added value?

Hi RSK,

That sounds like incorrect infomation to me.

If he is moving one Active NDSL connection to another address then all he would be charged is the NDSL move fee ($80) which i will be happy to credit back due to the incorrect infomation given.

Contract would not change.
