Friends of ours in a new Suburb who have moved into a brand new house have been told by Telecom that the equipment in the area is too old to support broadband without a phoneline.

But the Orcon Genius site says that there is availability for the house number at that address.

What does this mean - are Telecom correct as they're using whatever is available to the rep on the phone or is the Orcon Genius checker valid if it says genius is available?

It's possible that your friend was only after naked broadband and telecom don't offer that?

The reason Telecom are giving is incorrect. The reason they cannot get broadband without a phone line is Telecom isn't capable of providing it. Talk to another ISP.

Telecom don't offer naked DSL. Orcon do. If Orcon won't do it due to that exchange "not doing" EUBA, other ISPs should do it.
