My Genius drops the network and requires a reboot to get it going. This seems to happen most often at night. I wake up in morning and have to reset genius before I can use the phone. Its a right pain. I would say its happening at least once a week. I am in Browns Bay Auckland area and wonder if this is happening in other areas.

Hard to know what to check. Wiring is a dedicated wire separate from previous telephone house wiring so doubt that is the problem.
I just would like to know if this is happening with other Genius users or whether it is  local to my area or just me.

In Mairangi Bay here, maybe once every 36-48 hours Genius locks up, clicks loudly (power/line relay?), then restarts by itself after 20-30 seconds of no internet connectivity. Seems to be in the evenings.
Takes a few attempts to correctly 'handshake' ADSL sync with Orcon - ADSL sync light flickers blue, then solid red, then flickers blue again a few times before staying solid.

4 Telephone jack points in a ~20 year old house, Genius is the only device on the line. Internal wiring was checked by Chorus a year or two ago and seemed to be okay.

We were having (probably different) sync issues with Orcon when we first signed up with Genius, apparently they 'increased the voltage on the phone line', which seemed to do the trick, but now having possible issues with the Genius unit itself.

Annoying, but as long as it doesn't get any worse, I can live with it. Emailed Orcon who asked if we had installed any electric fences near the Genius...

Ha Ha Can understand that If you live in Mairangi Bay Do you have an electric fence.
jokes aside it is annoying for people that ring as it does not go to voice mail it just waits quite a while and then gives an engaged tone. No idea why its not going to voice mail anymore

Trouble is Genius is sold as a replacement for your phone system. If you want to make an emergence call in the night and find the line is down and you have to wait until you can reboot the router its quite disconcerting. Having a person in my house start  to die (a while back) can completly throw all backup measures out the window. In the 50 odd years that I had an ordinary telephone I can never remember it not working. While it might be a bit much to expect Genius to match that kind of service it would be nice to know that over a week the phone worked when you need to make a call. Thsi morning I did not check it when I left for work and now find it is down and I cannot call home. Obviously the other people in the house are not aware it is down and until one of them goes to make a call they are unlikely to realise and reboot router. It would not be so bad if the phone would reset itself when it crashes but it doesn't.

I can never understand why people don't check with the ISP/Telco BEFORE posting. At least then things are under way on their side and then you can start trying the things that get suggested in your thread. Maximise your time people! :)

Have upgraded your firmware, see how it goes now :)  Am going to do the same for about 6000 customer modems this week too, as we have seen some issues with a couple of versions of the firmware behaving in the way you've described.

Are you able to make the firmware available for download so we can update ourselves? I have Genius being installed today :) Hope there's no problems!

We've done that in the past and it causes more problems than it solves unfortunately.  It's a managed product so, if it needs upgraded, it will get upgraded.
