Hey all,
This is a question mainly aimed at the Orcon guys. Our main Orcon supplied PDU is out of slots and we are using a Jackson 1RU IEC 3pin plug PDU and have 4 socket warehouse power boards coming off that. But we really want to put something proper in place. What are the recommended PDUs? Looking at the vertical Dynamix ones I don't think they would screw into the back of the racks where the Orcon supplied PDU screws into?

Our Orcon supplied PDU has 3x C20 plugs at the bottom so was thinking of just cascading off of that.

Cheers

We have no problem with you replacing the standard supplied PDU with something else that suits you better.

(Assuming you are in your own rack, not in a common colo rack)

A lot of customers are deploying APC power rails, as they come in all shapes and sizes. You will need a sparky to change the plug on the end of them, but thats no major.

Not really recommended to daisy chain PDU's off each other. turns the rack into a cabling nightmare.

Ah OK didn't know we could replace it. But to be honest we will need 2 in any case. It's a half rack (our own) and is filled with 1u servers with about 1/3rd requiring 2nd power feeds so we would need 30 sockets. No single PDU would provide this (especially in a half rack) so we will need at least 2.

In our other half rack we got a 2nd PDU installed on another power distribution board which is fine for that rack. Don't really want to spend the money on the first rack if it can be avoided. Ideally would get another PDU which would screw on the other side of the rack vertically but just can't see any which seem to have the right screw holes.

The rack is a bit of a cabling nightmare at the moment but that is on the way to being fixed! Biggest issue is that virtually everything is 1u with a big chunk requiring dual power. It's also full up so looking messier and definitely affecting airflow. When it got to 4am on Saturday morning after starting work at 6am on Friday I gave up and will do it another weekend :p

Anyway the top of the rack is all half depth servers which just mount on the front so I put some rear facing 1u horizontal behind them:
