I am sadly stuck in a contract till October but I can tell you now they can stick it. I make sure I tell anyone that is looking to change ISP's to stare clear of them. Run by a bunch of muppets and they feed us scripted info by a bunch of slave labourers.

I noticed a slow down about 8pm, but it pretty much sped up since, I no when it slows down my AUS Speeds go from 27Mb down to around 9.

Here's a speed test to LA from my Fibre 30MB connection...

I've also noticed XBL gaming to be a bit dodgy tonight, even XBL downloads (Updates, game purchases) have been incredibly slow (15mins for 100MB)

Are there any issues atm? I've noticed gaming to be quite bad the last couple nights, also iTunes HD movies are taking a freakin age, one minute its 80KB/s then it shoots up to 700KB/s, then back down again. Taken 2 hours to download 2GB of a movie I just bought...

That looks about right for speeds to the US West Coast. Also remember GPON connections have a guarenteed speed I think of 2.5mbps minimum unless the ISP provisions them with greater CIR.

I noticed problems last night - it seems a bit patchy in the last week or two.

iTunes HD trailers have never been reliable on Orcon. They have had problems with international bandwidth (for me) since May 2009. It got better for a lot of Youtube a couple of years later, but things like iTunes movie trailers have always been poor performers.

Hmm, I guess with having Fibre, it's so quick during the day, during the night feels quite sluggish, my speedtest proves my point lol...  Orcon, buy more international bandwidth!
NZ:

AUS:

Feels like I'm getting the same speeds to the U.S as AUS at night, during the day, the same AUS server gives me pretty much the same as my local speeds.

Also, watching anything from Twitch tonight, (looking at iStat Menu's Network Monitor) won't stream past about 40KB/s making everything unwatchable, youtube Live streams in HD seem to start and stop, even during the day.
Never thought I would say this, but I had less speed issues with Slingshot than Orcon...

Hi Brandon,

I assume you are on the unlimited plan?

This should answer your questions if you are.

Yup I have the same problem with Twitch.tv
Last night gaming was hell due to lag spikes. I have had the splitter installed as Orcon suggested my connection is still bad. (seems only international traffic)
Can someone please help.

Sure it will slow down a bit, but when I joined with fibre everything was great, then you had that stupid international problem, and since then it's been pants at night.  It really effects gaming at night...

Also quick ? for you guys @orcon.
Why are updates/purchases from XBOX and iTunes so painfully slow?

apple/microsoft use akamai.  orcon have historically had akamai performance issues.  if using another dns server you may find speeds go up, but really it seems that for some unknown reason akamai uncached transfers are slower than normal downloads, and a significant amount of stuff seems to be uncached, like if do the same download 3 times in a row, it may be fast the third time (the ip hops around and they don't seem to share cache) then download again in a day or two it'll be slow again.

haven't done any testing recently.  but at the time i compared akamai on orcon, telstraclear, telecom and orcon's was significantly slower/worse.  i've also heard that callplus's can have similar issues though.

cachefly on the other hand seems to be consistently fast.  (http://cachefly.cachefly.net/100mb.test) and i wish more people would just use cachefly rather than this akamai stuff.
