Not sure if this should go into the Apple forum (so, apologies in advance). Anyone used the EyeTV DVB-T tuner for the iPad before? http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecification.aspx?ItemID=408550 If so, any issues with it? TIA.

I believe a tech website has just reviewed it...my memory fails me trying to remember which. The software has been rather lackluster, and it is unlikely that you will get an EPG for the week (generally the next programme information is populated in the desktop solutions). I also understand that you can't record TV. Worth noting the coverage for Freeeview DTT in NZ is only ~ 87% from memory. I am thinking about the network version, which lets you stream to ipad/iphone/mac and record. Of course, that was for an overseas version, so was curious what the situation was like here (assuming anyone has actually used one). Yeah, seems you can't schedule recordings, although manual recording is available. Not sure if that means you can record while watching another channel (?). Also, I suspect scheduled recordings might be a bit tricky for various reasons beyond Elagto's control. Yes. I think coverage may be a problem - depending on where you are of course. Where we are it shouldn't be an issue. At the end of the day, if it's something that effectively turns an iPad into a portable HD TV (ignoring any recording requirements) which works, then I'd definitely be interested.

I have had the Eye TV Netstream for several years and it works well using Freeview DVB-T for streaming TV to either my imac or macbook. I dont use it for recording but it can do that - occasionally I might pause when watching. It is also meant to allow streaming to an ipad or iphone. There is an eye tv app for this. However although it connects and you can get sound there is no picture just a message saying codec not found. I haven't bothered with this for some time but as I recall this related to NZ TV being ? MP4 rather than ? MP3 and eye TV does not support this so I have never had the streaming to the ipad work. Having said that you can connect and have it work if you have either the imac or macbook turned on and eye tv running but for me this defeats the purpose.

I'm assuming the EyeTV Mobile works correctly - given a strong enough signal (the million dollar question). Perhaps an RT guru could comment on the expected effectiveness of EyeTV Mobile's relatively small antenna. I'm thinking it's a tad too early to ask as the unit has not long been released. It's, curious that some enterprising phone manufacturer hasn't already built (or at least prototyped) a tablet (or phone?) with an embedded DVB-T tuner.

If no good, could return it to them within 10 days for a refund.
