I had a MagicTV3600, it used quite a bit of power even when on standby and had an audible hum when operating despite the fact that it was advertised as "fanless and quiet".   There was also at times "pixilation",  particularly on TV1 which [to me] indicated that the signal wasn't wonderful despite the fact that the signal meter said that it was.      I also found that the the time shift was laboriously slow.   I cut my losses and replaced it with a Panasonic DMR-XW380GZK which uses around 1watt when on standby, and it has a much stronger tuner (no pixilation).    It only has  a 250GB hard drive but I've found that to be sufficient for my purposes, beside which it is also a DVD recorded so I can copy "keepers" on to a DVD

There's a new firmware at http://www.magictv.co.nz/downloads 3.18. No release notes yet.

Stuck the 5.07 Beta on, seems a lot more responsive. Changes channel quicker and the guide seems quicker, usually quite laggy.

Just need to suss out the remote. I notice it'll accept MCE/Xbox remotes now under the beta ;-)

The Harmony's colour LCD devours batteries like no other remote I've seen. A 600 with its black and white LCD can't be too bad if the batteries last longer. I wouldn't use non rechargeables in it.

Do we have a Unixy someone able to make the ftp, http server and 4min jump work on the new firmware revisions? Foot in Mouth

Has anyone had problems with the new Channel 12 "Choice" on magic tv not appearing ?

It shows on the guide, but when changing to watch it we just get a "No Signal" message.

It is viewable on our tv through its freeview tuner.

Cheers

No problem here
3600 V3.17
Channel 12 - Hairy Bikers  on now.

From memory I don't even think we needed to rescan.

Having the 4 minute jump, like v3.16, would be most welcome :)

I'll have a look at 3.18 soon, busy at the moment fixing water pump for the house :-) Was really just waiting for the release notes but they still don't seem to be up yet.

I have installed 3.18. Can't see any visible difference to previous upgrades...

Correction... I mean one minute jump. Eight seconds back is OK (better than the default LOL) but would you consider changing it to 10 or 15 seconds? Adverts are usually 60, or 30 seconds in length & if the ad break is 3 minutes, instead of the usual 4 minutes and one has done 4 one minute presses, an 8 second reverse jump is awkward to get back one minute, in my opinion.

Of those of us that use the modified firmware, for the one minute forward/eight second back, what are your opinions of the jump times, now that you have used them for a considerable period?

I think a 30 second jump backwards would be better than the 8 second one.  But, whatever the choice, it is a huge improvement on the default of 10 minutes.

I've installed it too - I think the fast forward/rewind is vastly improved, but obviously having the 4 min skip instead of 10 mins would be superb. Looking forward to 2lostkiwis's fine work again!

Firmware 3.18:
- Add audio delay setting
- Add automatic adjustment for manual repeat timer bookings for daylight saving changes
- Add instant recording support even if current channel has no CRID
- Fix a booking problem with specific regional channels
