Try this:

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=83&topicid=43120&page_no=64

Scroll down to # 527405 posted on 28-Sep-2011 22:51.

That is the version 3.17 with the 1 minute FWD and 8 sec RW skips, along with the http server.

If that does not work (if the links etc are no longer available) then let me know. I have a copy I can upload somewhere.

wklie:I can't offer detailed steps, but I think it should be done as follows:
1. In the MTV3600 with the original 500GB HDD, remove all files from Trash, then perform a check system disk operation first
2. Use a Linux boot CD or http://www.partedmagic.com to partition and format the 2TB: create a 400MB ext3 first partition, and a JFS partition for the rest.
3. Do a recursive file copy such as cp -a or cp -dpR from old drive first partition to new drive first partition, and old drive second partition to new drive second partition.  If cp stops due to read error, you may need to manually avoid the offending files  (Alternatively, I suspect it may be possible to simply drag and drop all the directories and files in GUI to do the recursive copy, but I'm not 100% sure about this.)

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'll try that, maybe later today.

I'll post here if I manage to get it to work.

2lostkiwis: Here's an update as requested. It's the same as the last except it changes the skip forwards and backwards to 4 minutes.

Thanks, that works amazingly well.  Almost no ads.

And big thanks from me too.  Moved up from 3.13 beta 6 with 10 forward, 6 back, and so far this version is great and really enjoying the simple 4 min up.

No.  The modified 3.17 software runs an http server so you can copy from disk onto a pc.  It has a couple of versions offering 4 minute fwd/back jogging or 1 minute fwd and 8 seconds back (my favourite).

Yes. Refer to page 45 of the online manual for details.

This can also be done with the MTV3700. Refer to page 52 of the online 3700 manual.

Can you copy from the internal hdd to usb hard drive.

As JefWright states, short answer is no.

Unlike the MTV3700, you cannot copy files from the HDD to a USB external device. The files on the MTV3700 are encrypted, so any files that are copied onto an external USB device can only be played back on the MTV device that recorded the program. The MTV3600 does not encrypt the files on the HDD. If you use one of the modified firmwares and connect your MTV to a computer via the ethernet port, you can access the MTV3600 files via an http server. Refer to my post at the top of this page (P 85) for a link back to the firmware that I prefer to use.

2lostkiwis did an awesome job on this. All the credit belongs to him.

no cutting out the ads doesnt work on my mtv3700. you can select the start and ending point and choose to delete that section but it doesnt actually do it.  Think theymust have disabled it.

In that case, I also should try it with the MTV3600. I'm only going by what is in the manual.

If I want to save something from the MTV3600, I use the http server to copy the file(s) to my computer. I then edit the files and remove any ad breaks using the computer.

The MTV3700 does encrypt the files on the HDD as a Freeview restriction. It may have other restrictions including some sort of copy once or no editing if the appropriate flag is set in the broadcast (this is just a guess now). If so, the issue might be the program that you are wanting to edit and keep may have a copy protection flag or copy once flag set.

Hello,

great thread but has become pretty massive.  I was wondering if the 3700 with the latest firmware can skip or fast forward through adverts?  I realise this has been covered for the 3600 and 3700 but perhaps not a recently upgraded/procured 3700

Might buy one today, it seems to be the best NZ freeview product out there.

Cheers, Richard.

I'd be looking at one of the Bluray/freeview HD PVR combo units.  Possibly similar price...

Cheers, Jaxon. I actually tried a Panasonic Bluray/Freeview PVR combination but found it to be convoluted and buggy. Plus JB's are selling the 3700 with 1TB drive for $500 which ain't bad. I figured a dedicate product might do a better job than a BD/PVR hybrid. (So long as I can ff the ads)
