Sharp Dual LNBF has an issue with Blindscan (wondering how could you get D2 using this LNBF) Normally D1/C1 or C1/D2

Using a Disq. switch with the compenation of Dual LNBF (which needs 22Khz to be "on or "off) will cause the Blindscan not to work as it should.

you need to adjust the 22KHz (on/off) depending on which satellite you are watching . However I would recommend  a single Sharp LNBF to avoid such conflict and you will notice that the speed of the blindscan will be much better and it will not miss any transponder. Cheers

I have the Ultraplus F9000 HD and had a couple of problems and updated the firmware with no improvement.  After reading here with someone claiming problems with the 980 I contacted Ultrapower.  He suggested updating to the latest firmware.  well I had already had that.  I had done something stupid.  After updating the firmware, info showed the new firmware but no changes had taken place.  In the email ultrapower said reset to factory settings.  I did that and all is working well now with no problems so far.  I have found it is important to reset to factory settings after updating the firmware. Am happy now.  Really thankful for their help.

Hi I have a Ultraplus 980hd and for the most part it has been quite impressive in my opinion.

Can anyone help with this problem? PVR is slow and locks up. never used to.

In the last couple of months i find when accessing the USB PVR external drive for prerecorded content the unit locks up, and/or is very slow.

It seems to take a long time to access the information on the USB drive which is a samsung 600Gb formatted by the 980HD. I've never had this problem before now, previously it was working fine.

Pressing playlist brings up the folders and content, but pressing the content down button takes forever for it to move down the files, selecting even longer, and sometimes it seems to just lock up.

The drive itself has now recorded information of 200Gb out of 600Gb.

The APP version is v1.08.37

The files at the UltraPower site dont seem to indicate what fixes the releases fix, there doesnt seem to be release notes??

e.g FAC. Feb 2011 XXXXX . IRD

Thanks if anyone has seen this.

Please update the set with the new S/W version 108.75 as your SW is almost one year old however, it supports cardreader directly without any plugin. We don't need to comment on each new S/W and what is for, we just publish them to support our customers if they have any issue. Unlike any other importers we do support our customers with the latest update to improve the perfornamce of the sets that we are selling.  Also you need to use an external USB 2.0 HDD made for AV and not for DATA as your Samsung . We would recommend to use WD Elements (cheap and very fast) . By the way your enquiry here is not related to the title of this section. It should be here all about the UltraPlus 700HDMI and not other products .  You could also contact us if you need any help with your set , you know already our web-site as you have mentioned . Cheers

tradertim , please be informed that we don't have S/W version FAC 108.37 this S/W never exsited as FAC but as IRD (which supports card reader directly)and was published from us 08/2010 and we started to use it on 06/2010 , And this is the SW which you have . If you load FAC S/W you need to have a plugin to support the card reader please check our web-site for plugin as well
and here the download site : http://www.ultrapower.co.nz/download_ultraplus.html

Used 700 unit for a while now. For me it's only for certain times as I have freeview HD/terrestrial for NZ tv. A few points to note:

1) Recorded a car race at the weekend. Went to start watching about 20 minutes later so I could fast forward the ads. Unit wouldn't let me start watching the file off the USB drive whilst it was still recording to it.

2) Went to rewind what I was watching (I could do that though, just could not start the file from the start). The unit has very slow fast forward and rewind speeds. There are 2 speeds, one a bit faster than normal and one a bit faster than that.

There doesn't appear to be a way to skip set blocks of time, short of 'book marking' that you define as you watch a file. Then when you next watch the file you can jump to that spot easily.

The picture is very very good for an SD receiver and the tuner seems to be very sensitive for weaker signals. I know it's been said that most tuners are the same but this one is the best I've had.

The user interface is not really my cup of tea. I prefer the very basic approaches you get on approved freeview units, so I'm not going to be giving this to my parents for use as a PVR. For me though, for what I need from it, and especially for the price, it's working. Just wish the PVR side of things as mentioned above were a bit more polished.

Hi Jaxson
please read the manual carfully before you place a feedback like this!!! , you could fast forward or rewind one hour recording in 5 sec . Please contact us if you need any support. It is all up to you if you wish to buy Freeview certifed set and have another disappointing experience.  Cheers

I have been using an UltraPlus 700 for the last 4 weeks, Here are some observations.

Pluses:
Esthetically one of the nicest set top boxes around.
One of the nicest user interfaces in terms of looks and usability.
Playback quality very good.
Plays avi's etc very well.
A very nice remote control.

Minuses:
USB recording is very badly implemented. It ships with time slip recording enabled so that you always have
the last 2 hours or whatever time you specify available for replay, This is great except that the
unit will frequently crash during record. This feature can be turned off.
Also, timed recordings will invariably cause crashes.

This is a pity because recording on a set top box is a great feature.

When the unit restarts itself after a recording crash it will often loose it current time thus making future recording impossible until it is reset.
Also the state of the last recording is often undefined and sometimes cannot be deleted on the unit
requiring a reformat on a PC.

I have tried a different USB stick each week so far, all were either 8GB or 16GB and all were recent fast models, none of them help.

I would be interested if there are others who use this feature often and have had success.

Regards,
John.

Hi there,

your set is obviously faulty , please contact your dealer or us to fix it . We are sorry that it happened to your unit, however, you should asked us if  that is normal before you place such negative feedback and we could have taken care of it.

Please, users, place only feedback if the set is not faulty as we do not sell product with crashing issues.
We frequently get individual feedback not based on facts and this is shedding a bad light on all the other, perfectly working units, as it happened to our UltraPlus 980, at the moment the best HD single tuner receiver in NZ without any doubt. Cheer

as we don't want people reading anything but positive reviews about our products, despite what owners are actually experiencing....

We welcome also negative feedback if the set is not faulty. A negative feedback about a faulty product however, is not really a concern to others. I am just wondering about the 1000s of faulty products we never ever hear a feedback about their functions, but only about the fact that it is faulty. Cheers

Hi John,

Thanks for placing your actual owner/user experience here.

I agree with the remote control comment, it is very good.  I use a Harmony Universal remote so it's irrelevant to me though.

I personally find the user interface a bit colourful shall we say.  Things like the info menu showing the signal strength as a rainbow colour wheel (on the left in the picture below) is a bit intense for no real reason.

I personally would favour the official freeview boxes for commercial installs/parents/grandparents etc as they typically have a simpler, but clearer interface.

The UP 700 unit has some good features when you get into it. The timeshift bar makes navigating big files easy.  To get to it though you have to press play again, which is easy but not really intuititve?  The fast forward and rewind without using the timeshift bar are not very fast or smooth, 2 speeds forward and only one speed in reverse.

With regards USB thumb drives, they really do vary in speed capability.  The Ultraplus 980HD unit actually includes a drive speed test utility that is great as it shows you what the current drive should be able to facilitate/handle.

USB Drive Speed Test Link

I personally do use the unit to record to an external laptop hard drive, self powered via the usb slot.  I have had no problems with this at all.  It works very well using the scheduled on and record function.  I manually set the time as I record off another satellite and NZ time doesn't line up for that one.  I use this like once ever 2 weeks and it works well, though I check the time etc to make sure it's going to work in the middle of the night.

So yes, recording and playback does work well for me.  I find the unit very well priced for what you get, hdmi + usb drive.  I think it's good for what it does and where it is pitched in the market, but with the provisos I've listed above.

Hi there Jcd...
I have this device. Generally I'm pleased with it. I didn't realize though that it played pack avi files. How'd you manage that?
I can't even get it to list avi files, far less play the things.

Cheers!!
