Topic # 111844 16-Nov-2012 13:38 Send private message

I've setup me HTPC to use MediaPortal as the backend for my XBMC.

I have had it running for a couple of weeks and the only real issue I've run into is that every channel but Sky Sport 1 HD works. The non-HD feed works (which isn't saying much) but for some reason I either get a no video/audio error or just a blank window in the MediaPortal preview window.

The issue may have started after I put EPG Collector on but I can't confirm that. PLUS EPG Collector is awesome so I'd rather not have to get rid of it.

The only thing I've thought of is to scan the transponder again and see if Sky Movies works, as I understand these are the only 2 channels on it. Any other ideas? Is the anything I need to post to help you guys help me?

Also should I switch to Argus? Will channel changing be faster? There are so many questions.

I don't recommend preview for testing. Use the manual control section, or MP if you want to check video/audio.

I don't think that would have the slightest effect. You do not have to get rid of it.

Your TV Server log files would be a good start.
1. Open TV Server configuration.
2. Click "open log directory" in the top left corner.
3. Zip up all the files you find there, upload and provide a link (or attach if possible).

Also should I switch to Argus? Will channel changing be faster? There are so many questions.

I'm biased. Sealed

Ok so using manual control sometimes it timeshifts and sometimes it throws at no video/audio error. If it does timeshift and I hit record the .ts doesn't load. I installed Argus and it reported PMT not found or something...

System details -

Win 7 x64 Pro with all updates
TBS 6984 Quad Tuner
MP TV Server 1.2.3 - dedicated server
XBMX Frodo nightly with latest DEV MPortal plugin for PVR

Here's a link to my logs -

Here's the tuning details for the channel -

For a start, your tuning parameters are wrong. The modulation should be 8 PSK (DVB-S2), and the frequency should be 12331000.
I guess you've been doing manual scans for some reason? I'd suggest use the "update satellite list" button to update your tuning details and then do a full scan so you avoid potential errors like that.
Those mistakes are possibly causing your slow tuning.
I also see a lot of this:
dvb:  RunGraph returns: 0x8007001F

This is because you're preloading your tuners and/or attempting to use them before the tuner driver is ready.

Tried the update server list with no joy, so tried a clean install.

Previewed once but now no signal message on all channels... And MGM is never found on the full scan. Lo Hi settings ate 11300 and 0 for switch to find channels. Here's the logs -

PerfectV, go in to channels and completely delete all your tv channels.

download this xml file which contains all my sky nz channels, numbered according to the sky guide with groupings as per the sky box:  http://sdrv.ms/QLgt9V

Import this in to tvserver and this should get you all the channels, correctly done with numbers and groups.

Chris

EDIT:  Also if your LNB is standard SKY then try 10750 as the settings.

PerfectV: And MGM is never found on the full scan.

There is a missing frequency in the default list. I've asked our tuning detail provider to add it over and over again but they are ignoring me. Please do a manual scan with the following parameters:

Frequency = 12671000
Symbol rate = 22500
Polarisation = horizontal
Modulation = Not Set
Inner FEC rate = 3/4
Pilot = Not Set
Roll off = Not Set

That should pick it up along with a couple of others you'll be missing.

Lo Hi settings ate 11300 and 0 for switch to find channels.

This is not technically correct. Please use:

Low = 11300
High = 11300
Switch = 12750

Chris, thanks for the settings, I got a no signal. Possibly because I'm in an apartment building where ther LNB is 11300?

  Please use:

Low = 11300
High = 11300
Switch = 12750

Now have MGM and signal on all channels but Sky Sport 1 HD again with a full scan and those LNB settings

Ah ok, yeah that maybe why, hadn't considered that!  I take it is all sorted then?

@MM are you likely to include NIT scanning at some point within TVServer (when you've got the time ;-) )

Has been supported for years.
Do an advanced scan with the scan type set to "search for transponder list". At this point you have to do it with manual tuning parameters but that is a work in progress (;)). Go for these:

Frequency = 12519000
Symbol rate = 22500
Polarisation = horizontal
Modulation = not set
Inner FEC rate = 3/4
Pilot = not set
Roll off = not set

As I understand it that is Sky's home transponder, though probably any other transponder would work.

Ah I see, I was more meaning from a general point of view of having a single row of sat info for all sats and then instead of doing an update, when you scan it simply asks do you want to NIT or scan specific transponders... Does that make sense?

Anywho, doesn't bother me at the moment as I've got my list setup... Although its a right b@stard when I have to redo it!

Yes.

Here is a teaser. I know it is only a couple of images so it doesn't really convey how much work I'm putting in, but hopefully it at least gives you some concept.

http://tinypic.com/r/sdlnjq/6
http://tinypic.com/r/24kz4sg/6

So the idea is that you select a satellite, then you can scan all transponders, a group of transponders (eg. only horizontal, or only DVB-S2), or a single transponder. You can also enter manual parameters as before, but it should be completely unnecessary in 99% of the regular use cases.

There are a bunch of "scan types" in there which would take awhile to explain in full, but here is the brief rundown:
Smart = cache NIT --> speeds up scan times
Fast = scan SDT other --> speeds up scan times dramatically (eg. scan one transponder, get all channel info)
Exhaustive = current scan approach
Smart network = scan NIT for transmitter list, then do a full smart scan over the transponders that are found
Exhaustive network = scan NIT for transmitter list, then do a full exhaustive scan over the transponders that are found

You're the first in the world to see this. Everything subject to radical change. Comments welcome. :)

Issues still there. If i scan with the LNB switch as 12750 i pick up all channels but then get a no signal warning when I try to watch or timeshift them.

How are you splitting the signal to the tuners?

Awesome looking good.  Would be useful to provide a context sensitive explanation of the various options for the NIT scan beside it, so you get an understanding of each option.

Also, perhaps some form of checkbox on the transponder dropdown box so you can select only a limited number of TS to scan.

Passive 1 - 4 splitter, 5 - 2400mhz rated.

Had been working fine, you think going back to the single cable is worth a shot?
