So I went trawling again to find out what services are out there, after a trip to the video store (yes, it felt every bit as anachronistic as it sounds) where ALL the bluray new releases were out already. Last time I checked streaming services like this was like a year ago, and it doesn't really seem like anything has changed.

Quickflix seems about the only thing available, but selection isn't great and I can't see anywhere that it is even streaming content in HD? The PPV stuff must surely be HD, surely?

It seems like the only options are still:

A) Netflix or similar via VPN, or
B) Piracy

I just want someone to start a service good enough for me to say STFU and take my money! 

Is there anything out there that I am missing?

We ditched sky movies a few months ago. Now violating Netflix terms and conditions and loving it!

I just use iTunes with US gift vouchers (no VPN needed, therefore full speed) and Hulu (with Hola.org addon installed in Google Chrome).

Ditched Sky about a year ago.

Using Tivo to record the freeview stuff that we watch.

Have both Netflix and Hulu+ via unblock-us.

Also have Vudu for the Pay Per View stuff.

For Sports Im using cricfree.tv on my PC.

Only thing that I’m regretting is that I’m sending my money overseas, but I’m so glad I’m no longer supporting sky’s monopoly.

Sky has created this problem that there are no NZ alternatives, that’s why I have no issues violating Netflix’s and Hulus T&C.

Is Unblock-US still working for Netflix? It seems from recent comments at the site that there are problems with setting up billing?

I still have some subscriptions in iTunes US but I'm using Hulu via Hola for new stuff.

Yes still working fine for me.
But my billing has been setup for a while now. Have not changed anything.

iTunes with US gifts cards as well. Tried Netflix via UnblockUs which worked well.

I use our Apple TV a lot for this. Seems to have a pretty decent selection of movies. It may not be the most palatable option to many, due to the required hardware purchase, but its a valid option nevertheless. And at $160, its not an overly costly investment.

Good writeup here on unblocking video. Works well, I can stream stuff via my Roku box but I havent tried signing up for anything concrete yet.

Yeah, I didn't think it would be your cup of tea. But it is a valid option (albiet a neutered one compared to our overseas contemporaries).

Is it a drama to get US iTunes vouchers?

I'm ditching sky in a couple of weeks (price, quality) and getting HTPC, so I'm keen to explore all the other options.
