I currently have a setup with a Soundblaster audigy RX and a XFX Nvidia 8500 GT. The particular graphics card I have does not have HDMI but ive seen posts saying it is possible to send video and audio over a dvi->hdmi cable if you connect some spdif pins. I am not sure exactly where to look for those pins and how to configure it inside the OS.

using Xubuntu 13.10

Any help will be appreciated.

You can probably replace the card with one that does for less than it'll cost you in parts to get the bodgey system working.

Unless you have specific needs a 210 will probably do fine as a replacement. I'm not sure about drivers, but I'd like to think they wouldn't be an issue.

I already own the parts from a build I pieced together ages ago which is why
I am banging my head against the wall trying to get this to work.

I will keep that in mind if I cant figure it out. Does it do audio over HDMI and
fit in a PCI-E 2.0 x16 slot?

What are you feeding the hdmi into? I'd really recommend getting a card that can do hdmi bit streaming and be done with it.

Yeah that's your best bet. The TV isn't exactly putting out hifi or surround sound so twin RCA will be fine.

Your links don't work for me, the middle of the url is missing.

Looking at an image of the video card online, there may be a 2 pin header next to the heatsink. This would be the digital input into the card, that would then get routed out over a dvi to hdmi cable.

Can't see the sound card but there may be a 2 or 3 pin header coming off that (or from the motherboard). I got a similar setup working using the parts I had laying around and it worked well, allowing me to have ac3 / dts sound without issue. Depending on the rest of your setup, it may be worthwhile getting a video card that bitstreams the better audio, however, if you can get it working with what you have (I butchered an old cd to soundcard cable for my setup) it is a worthwhile improvement.

Actually managed to get it working.
I had searched the internet about my sound card and
motherboard but always saw that my mobo did not have
the spdif out pins. This was wrong found them just obscured
by my heatsink.

Made the minor adjustment connected the cable and now have
sound coming out of my dvi->hdmi cable from the nvidia 8500GT
