Hey all,

This in in response to the thread by DarthKermet - Post a pic of your home theater setup.  Since freitasm unlocked this thread, I have finally decided to upload a pic or two of my system.  Details are:

Sony 52" LCD TV
Rotel RSX-1058 receiver
PS3
Home Theater PC (3Ghz C2D, Windows Media Centre+Media Browser+Huluplus+RecorededTV HD)
Rotel RDV-1045 DVD Player
Apple TV 2
Kef XQ-40 Fronts
Kef XQ-50c Centre
Kef Coda surrounds

I have focused on quality of components and athestics (i.e. WAF) over other areas, and I am very happy with the results.  The Kef's give an amazing sound, and the HTPC gives me infinite flexibility (along with endless tweaking, but that's a cost I am prepare to wear).

Currently the PS3 goes to the amp via HDMI, but the HTPC goes to the TV direct via HDMI, and have a coax optical cable for audio (since the amp doesn't support HD audio formats, this doesn't matter.  I have both units going direct to the amp, but that decreases the WAF).

I use the PC for Freeview HD, local media (TV shows and movies are stored on a server running Windows Home Server) and HuluPlus.  I use the PS3 for Netflix (and some Hulu Plus).

This is a temporary setup until some more work is done on the house, hence the messy cables.

mine would be a picture of a raspberrypi, later to be replaced by an ouya when they come out (if you order quick you can still get one in april, but they are apparently running out of the first batch).

ill post some shots when my house is finished, im installing a network cabinet in the garage with windows server/tv server + 6 bay readynas + switches, and have in wall/ceiling speakers in lounge + bedroom. this weekend ill be busy connecting the 38 network ports :)

i hope most people are switching to thin clients for HTPCs, a full computer is overkill these days IMO.

I assume HDi is in reference to the Sky box?  For the education of the general populous (rather than PM you) why go this way? Wouldn't using a card reader plus quad DVB-S2 card make a better option if using a HTPC?

And is this 8x HDI plus 8x HTPC?  If so are you using a Hauppauge Colossus or something?

Question for those in the know - if you do Sky Cards in a PC, can you share the card over the network to other HTPC's?  I am talking technically here, not legally etc.  Just curious.

Got an Acer i3 Mini ITX pc ($400 from TM) next our TV, connected via HDMI. Probably overkill, according to Reven, but suits the needs of my family. We don't want TVs in our bedrooms, in our kitchen, everywhere. Simplicity and WAF first.

Installed are two dvb-s cards, mediaportal and a 1 Tb HDD, connected to our router and desktop 2:1 speakers

Through this the kids can play minecraft, muck around with spotify, and with the wireless Xbox 360 controllers they can run skylanders and other games from the windows desktop, sitting on the couch. Us grownups can access the movies on the HDD and watch freeview when we find something worth our time.

Yup; I'm running a6-3500 (Llano) with 2GB RAM and it's had absolutely no problems with anything I've thrown at it, including 1080p. My understanding from a few people in the know is that it will also have no problems with 3D bluray and 2D->3D conversion should I ever want to do that, though I haven't bothered with a bluray drive for it yet...

Only thing to watch out for if you think you might ever want to do 3D bluray is that the lower Trinity lineup changed something and you need at least the A6-5400K or above according to one of the chaps over at AVSForums.

Trinity GPUs are faster than Llano so all trinitys should be fine playing 1080p. Pretty much any iGPU can handle 1080p these days, 1080i is the only thing taxing on gpu hardware. A4-5300 Trinity would have no problem with bluray 1080p

HTPC - Intel i3-2100 / 12GB DDR3 / GA-Z77X-UD5H / HD4670 1GB / HVR2200 / 750GB + 4 x 3TB / Win 7 x64 / MediaPortal 1.5
PC - Intel e8500 / 8GB DDR2 / HD5830 1GB / Win7 x64

Absolutely, I wasn't suggesting otherwise - it's just 3D bluray that is something to watch out for as they have apparently removed the MVC hardware decode on the lower end trinity APUs whereas all the Llano range apparently supported it.
