Hi

I have just been given an Appletv gen2 (ATV2) and being eager to get the most from the little device went online to search for tips and advice. After having a good look around a number of online forums and discussions boards I have come to the conclusion that I need to ask for help.

Not being the most computer savvy person around I depend on friends to help fix my DIY attempts.... but unfortunately I have been unable to find anyone with the much needed skills to assist with my dilemma.

This led me to here and my first online post. J

After looking through a number of forums it appears that most of these questions have been asked sometime ago and that since the shutting down of mega upload things have changed a little.

I have however managed the following

  • Jail broken the ATV using season pass
  • Installed ATVflash (black)

According to most postings this should have given me access to a heap of content including “on demand” etc. for NZ.

I am yet to find a link that helps with achieving this…

Which leads me to my questions:

Can any of the NZ TV on demand plugins be installed on an ATV2?  And if yes How?

Is there anyone out there that can confirm what is and what is not working for a jail broken ATV2 in NZ please? Hulu, Netflix etc…

And finally in relation to the above question I am looking at using a VPN and would appreciate any recommendations in that area too please?  I am thinking strongVPN….?

Any assistance, advice, suggestions would be greatly appreciated thank you

Hi,

NZ Tech Podcast did a really good guide to VPN + Netflix a while ago which might be of help, they were using an Xbox but that shouldn't be a problem. Google 'VPN, Netflix' and change to sites from NZ found it for me.

If you search something like 'Astril, VPN' here there was a really good thread on this board, think it was in the LAN etc section but not sure, recently.

That stuff answered most of my VPN + NetFlix / Hulu questions.

Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?

While it may not be practical for your situation, installing Plex media server onto an always-on machine in your home and using the Plex client on the ATV makes for a pretty versatile little HTPC unit.

"You are" = "You're" - Not "Your".  "They are" = "They're" - Not "Their" or "There".  You probably mean "lose" not "loose".  There's no such word as "Alot".

Cheers, I am trying to avoid having standalone running or something like that I am hoping to do the whole thing through the ATV.

Thanks for the suggestion, fingers crossed some ATV owners hop on and give some feedback....

Am I right in thinking the only way to run a VPN with ATV is to have a compatible router and install the software there?
