richms: So if I get the free phone deal and want to bail on it in 12 months time when the S4 or whatever comes out, what will be the total I have to pay at that time? The terms and stuff are all so confusing!

Whatabout if I want to back it down to the cheapest plan since all I really care about is data?

After 6 months it's free to go down to a $29. plan. Once you are on the $29. plan you may be able to terminate your contract cheaper, I'm not sure on that one though...

according to t&c,
The early termination charge is the amount calculated by multiplying your monthly
Plan charge by the number of months remaining on the term of your Plan as at your
final Billing date, provided that
For the $89, $129 and $149 Plans the early termination charge shall not exceed
$1000.You will also be charged a one-off plan transfer charge of $600 if you change your
Plan to another plan within the first 6 months of your term and you change to a Plan
with a monthly fee of less than $89 per month.

Presumably the same scheme applies to the HTC One X? I'd prefer it simply because HTC make a _proper_ car kit whereas Samsung do not (which is pathetic).

"You are" = "You're" - Not "Your".  "They are" = "They're" - Not "Their" or "There".  You probably mean "lose" not "loose".  There's no such word as "Alot".

the samsung galaxy S3 does offer great built in smart actions.... this link to youtube does describe what i mean... ;p

i agree about the car kits, but there are aftermarket ones on trademe and elsewhere.... luckily my brother ordered some stands from offtheback.co.nz which are just perfect for the S3 ....

The shared data and being able to share it onto my dirt cheap GSM GPS trackers is one thing making this a very very tempting offer.

Im going to put a 2degrees sim into my HTC and see if it is good enough around town before jumping for this offer. Any plans to end it anytime soon? I know its useless in the whop whop areas of auckland but will just live with that.

Vodafone was decently faster.....

Probably because VF has better 3G coverage.

I see the "free" SGS III offer is now available only on the $129/month plan and above.

The $89 offer finished on Sunday. I think the next time it would be available on a deal like this if they run a promotion during xmas or maybe next year when the newer model is out.. then this one will drop in price

If that's not over-priced I am not sure what is. $129/month for 24 months? Seriously? Equates to $3096. That's a lot of money for a phone that's priced at $750 via parallel import.

Ahh well.. you not just getting the phone for $129 a month.. you getting heaps of calling minutes, texts & data as well.. and with telecom you have to go on even a higher plan to get the SGS 3 for free. Vodafone on the other hand is a little cheaper, coz its $120 plan for free SGS 3.. So I think its evenly matched between all the three providers

I realise that but let's say I get the phone for $750.

$3098 (= $129/month for 24 months on 2D)
-
$750 (phone)
_______
$2348
= $98/month I can spend on data, calls and texts.

This amount more than covers for the data, texts and minutes you get on the plan.

Yup.. I hear you..

Not everyone wants to spend huge amount upfront and also if this was the deal from the start ($129/month), I wouldnt have taken it either.. but those who grabbed the $89 deal while it was on

I think that equates to:
$89 x 6months = $534
+
$39 x 18months = $702 (you can downgrade to the lower plan after 6 months without a penalty)
____________________
Total of:              $1236

And that further equates to $51.50 /month and you get the minutes and data and txts and the phone for free.. that was the whole point of this thread I guess.

Slightly OT but can you change your plan down after x number of months without penalties on Telecom?
