avecha: To me it seems like quite the hack job to release a network that most people can't even utilize properly.

You chose a network that doesn't have it's own infrastructure in your town, so your phone will roam on Vodafone to deliver nationwide coverage.

Depending on your data requirements you may probably find that Vodafone or Telecom are cheaper.

I never saw anywhere in the fine print on the tv adverts stating that you have to be in a main city to use the network properly.

They don't say that because that's not the case.

You do however have to pay National Roaming prices or have a National Roaming Data pack if you want to use data outside the 2degrees zones.

That's a bit unfair. When 2Degrees launched they had to negotiate a deal with VF to enable roaming where they didn't have their own infrastructure. If they hadn't done something like this, we'd still be paying the outrageous prices that the duopoly of VF and TC were charging us then, and 2Degrees would be languishing or have given up.

Unfortunately, the great deal they got didn't extend to VF data, hence the "zone packs" for cheap data within their zones, and higher charges when out of zone and roaming onto Vodafone.

Thankfully, they're slowly building out their network and can provide zone data in more places now, and those of us on $39+ pay monthly now get 1GB+ data nationally. I'm not sure how they can afford to do this, but I suspect many pay monthly users are using far less than their allowances.

It depends entirely what you want to do.

In all honestly I'm completely confused as to what your issue actually is. Is it the fact you can't use data?

Before you signed up to 2degrees surely you understood what their pricing was and what their data pricing is? This is clearly listed on their website.

As for the warning message on your phone, you obviously need to have roaming enabled if you want to roam on the VF network.

Im not complaining at the data or pricing.
$19 for 4.3gb isn't to shabby a deal.
I want that stupid roaming warning to go.
I have played with all the settings and still nothing.
I have turned roaming on, off and to all networks, national only.
Still comes up.
I was confused at first because i went on their website and all i saw was 3G data packs, national broadband packs, national mobile broadband, mobile broadband, out of zone, in zone. Not very straightforward.
My own silly fault for wanting the snapper micro sim.

I was sorta hoping the 2 degrees people would have jumped in by now. I think all i've managed to do is make myself look like a complete dick.

I also posted the problem in the S3 forum as a lot of guys have the S3 on 2 degrees as well but they ignored the question.

Well, to be fair, telling people their network is a 'hack job' is unlikely to bring out their most helpful side. Even so, if I had had anything useful to say, I would have.

iPad + iPhone 4S + 2degrees 3G data 4tw!

These comments are my own and do not represent the opinions of 2degrees.

Wo'nt it stop being a problem at the end of the year when the entitlement to 1Gb of weekend mobile zone Broadband for snapper SIM finishes?

I had an icon pop up on my landline at home once. Rang Telecom, they couldn't help. Rang again, they still didn't help.

In the end I burnt my house down.

That fixed it.

The way I read it is you will always get the 'Roaming' indication when you are in Blenhiem. Unless you change to VF or Telecom.

So is your issue really just with an on screen roaming icon rather than the data you're getting or using?

I get that message all the time.
I press clear and it disappears. Then I get on with my life.

Not once have I thought about moving from 2D.
