Topic # 106785 31-Jul-2012 16:50 Send private message

My wife has a Sony Xperia U with a 2degrees postpay SIM.

The phone is just over a week old.

She has been having problems with the phone occasionally dropping off the network for long periods. Today I sent her a txt at 9:00am which she never received.

This afternoon she realised she had no signal showing again so turned the phone off and back on again.

About half an hour after the phone was turnedback on she got my txt plus a few others that had been sent to her during the day.

This is the 3rd or 4th time the phone has dropped off the network, the area we live in has excellent VF coverage.

She called the helpdesk this afternoon and from what she told me it sounds like she got fobbed off. She was told there must be a fault with the phone and to take it back, she was also told the SIM card may not be compatible with this phone and to try buying another one.

This sounds like fairly poor advice. I know full well what Noel Leemings will say if I take the phone back, especially with the fault being intermitent like it is.

Any advice on where to go from here?

We have only just joined 2degree's after being long time VF customers and so far am not that impressed.

I could try putting her SIM into my SIII for a few days but would rather try and sort it out with 2degrees first.

I used to have this problem with the galaxy S i9000 and my prepaid 2degrees, but this has stopped happening about 5 months ago (using the same phone). I have changed the firmware many times and the kernel as well, so I can't say for sure if it was the software or 2degrees service got better.

I haven't had this problem with my new phone(SGS3). Currently, the longest delay I get for a text (when I know it's coming) was less than a minute.

I highly doubt it's the hardware, it might be the firmware, or something with coverage or the network.

Where are you? You may not be using VF coverage.

Secondly, I would have thought that trying a different handset was a sensible troubleshooting exercise.

I also doubt the hardware is at fault. Unfortunately the csr at 2degrees was only intrerested in reading off his script, suggesting the phone and/or sim must be faulty and saying goodbye.

Hi

Try her SIM in another phone if possible to see if the issue can be replicated (as the SIII uses a MicroSIM it will not fit in that handset).

If the problem points to the SIM, rather than buying a new SIM, we will replace it if it's faulty or send you a blank one then the # can be swapped over.

Make sure your network search is on Auto and check the Service Centre is set to +64220227672. Moer info - http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/help/texts.

Please can you PM your wife's 2degrees #, exact location where this is happening and 2 - 3 examples with times, dates and #'s the delayed texts were sent from.

Thanks

I'm keen to hear where you are as well. My wife has had identical problems with us having just moved to Otaki on the Kapiti coast.

I have the same problem too - and currently having it now! Intermittent prob - 3rd time it's happened recently, first time I contacted Customer Care - took a day to receive the backed-up txts with no explanation. It's not my phone (Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro) as SIM removed and tried in older Samsung and still nothing. Area is Lower Hutt in great reception! I'm on the prepay $19 combo plan with one of the old SIMs that were sent out free - could this SIM be the problem??

About to call Customer Care again....

Been having similar issues, but only in Kapiti. My phone keeps going into "Emergency Calls Only" in Paraparaumu, works fine when I'm in Wellington CBD (I commute in)

I've run and rerun the Nokia /WP7 "Network Setup" app, and it says my network is 2degrees, but still no connection. It was working fine until a week or two ago, quite frustrating.

Because I've had the same problem you are talking about before, I think you need to setup your phone to select network automatically. It worked for me

In this case, I think it's better for 2 degrees care to handle it, pm them your number and when it happened etc

I had to keep rebooting my phone and manually setting it to the 2Degree network. Automatic wasn't getting me back onto 2Degrees whenever it switched back off Vodafone roaming. Try setting the network manually to 2D and see if this helps. Unfortunately, in my case, it had to be done every time.

Hiya

Been haaving the same issue for almost a week now. (Thats how I ended up on this thread), as is a friend of mine.

I have the Huawei U1251. It is always switching to G2 or no network (or Emergnecy only). then occasionly goes back to G3 then it will give me any messages sent to me.

Is there some sort of outage in wtgn or my phone is dying or suddenly obsolete??

I checked the message center number was correct.

ideas?

Cheers!

-P

Checking the message centre number for this issue will add no value
