Hi there. I currently have a Google Nexus one, and on monday got a Samsung Galaxy S3. Google N1 takes a normal sim, and SGS3 takes a micro Sim. On Monday I bought a blank ($5) Micro Sim. I want to put my current number on the blank sim. I rung up 0800 022022 yesterday at around 1-1:30pm and asked for my current number and credit to be moved over to the new sim. It is now nearly 24 Hours and I cannot make calls/send/receive texts on my SGS3, only my my Google N1.

It is meant to take up to 24 hours isnt it? While it hasnt been 24 hours yet, its getting pretty close...

It should have been done on the spot. Try calling again and hassle them.

Thanks Salty. The weird thing is something has happened because my contacts from my old sim have gone over to the GS3. Maybe there is something I need to do at my end?

Well, Androidiness aside (I'm an iOS man myself) there's nothing you need to do with the SIMs; once the change has been made in our HLR the old SIM will stop working and the new one will start. You could try restarting both handsets, although that shouldn't be necessary.

Yeah I tried restarting them both multiple times. Its as if the job was only half completed because my contacts have moved over and thats it lol.

I suspect your contacts came down because Android syncs them to Google. You have wifi I assume? It would have come to the new phone that way. The SIM swap will not move any contacts or SMSes on the SIM. All it does is change the authentication information in the HLR from using the IMSI on the old SIM to the IMSI on the new SIM.

What a difference a day makes. After being in the call yesterday for 20-30 minutes, being put on hold 3 times and it not working, I took your advice Salty and rung them back today. The call took 3/4 minutes and shortly after it was all done. No idea what the lady was doing yesterday.
