I was mucking around and testing this feature: https://twitter.com/2degreesmobile/status/203328417171644416

Even if you haven't set up Voicemail you'll still get messages left. To turn off Voicemail dial 202 & select opt 3, opt 8.

It sort of works, I dialed my phone and it rang for a bit then I got the disconnected beeps. When I turned my phone off and called it, it went straight to voicemail. Bug with my phone or 2Dg?

It doesn't turn voicemail off completely. It turns off the ability for a caller to leave a message. You can still record a greeting, but after it plays the call will end.

Wow, that is a pretty cool feature - does the caller get charged?

We send ANM, so yes.

Don't want to give away the interconnect revenue quite that easily? Tongue Out

I still remember in the good old days with BellSouth and Telecom fighting each other in the mid 90's. Telecom's interconnect with BellSouth required 100% of calls to be terminated, hence BellSouth were essentially forced to offer customers voicemail with no option (unlike now) of disabling it.

What Telecom probably didn't plan on was BellSouth offering free voicemail deposits (Telecom charged per min for voicemail deposits), and the flat rate fee for voicemail retrieval (once again Telecom charged per min), or the ability to use included minutes for voicemail retrieval. Ultimately Telecom were forced to change their pricing.

Sometimes companies trying to shaft over the competition does backfire..

I hate voicemail, I had no idea that 2degrees offered an announce only option. I will be activating that since otherwise when you reject a call people get a busy signal and will just keep calling back.

why not make it an option on the initial setup?

As the nominal technical owner of the voicemail system... turning off message deposit was the first thing I did. :-P

Always playing hard to get! ;)

If you want Voicemail totally removed from your services, so the caller will not connect, please call 200 or 0800 022022.
