Most people at our work have iPhones on 2Degrees service. We find the service reliable for both calls and SMS.

Over the years we used both Telecom and Vodafone networks. None of the three networks has any noticeable advantage in terms of call or SMS delivery over others - they all have their own areas of advantages and disadvantages but overall experience is about the same.

I find your comments and this post to be less than helpful and it is bordering on defamatory.

2Degrees doesn't have an inherent problem with their text service or their network. If you think you lost a few texts, a decent thing to do would be to let them know which ones. If you are not willing to tell them, why complain, especially in a public forum? You alleged that there was a problem, but unwilling to tell what the problem actually was - that suggests to me there potentially was no problem in the first instance. Are you sure those texts were sent? How can you be sure if you don't even know when they were sent?

I thought it would be best if I clarified something.

I use VF for my mobile carrier.

I don't claim my SMS issue is with VF, or even that it is an issue! The 1st gen iPhone goes into a deep sleep and doesn't necessarily wake up when it receives an SMS. This might be internal to the phone. It might be because of how it interacts with the RAN. It might be because I had GPRS data disabled, and it relied on that to wake the device up every so often. It could even be that the iPhone 1's vibrate was too soft, and I'd only notice a repeating vibrate!

But that's all guesswork. All I knew is that I occasionally wouldn't get an SMS until the phone rang. :)

BTW, you're not going to find fast EDGE GSM over on VF. My 1st gen iPhone wouldn't do it at all, it was so slow as to be unusable.

Now, my new Nexus 4? For browsing response, it's faster than TCL cable and my new MBP. Surprised the heck out of me.

I am about to call the helpdesk, as I had to reboot my phone last night for another reason.
When it turned on and registered on the network I received 7 txt messages dating back a few days.

Not the first time it happened, but I blamed everyone else back then. However with the second instance, I now know that it has to be 2D (or my phone)

Could be the reason why I never received any messages from 2D regarding my txt combo, but now that I have received messages I still have not received.

Of note is that I made several phone calls during the last few days on the phone and that did not activate the messages.

I see txts disappear often with 2degrees also. My gf and I notice it fairly frequently, both when she was on Vodafone and now she is also on 2d.

Both of us are using ported 021 numbers and I wondered if that had anything to do with it, just speculation.

I also wonder how much cheap Android phones are to blame, lol.

I don't really consider moving to another network to be a likely solution though...

I've also had txts not arrive.
The problem is not knowing...

Last confirmed instance was meeting someone who asked why I didn't reply to their txt (I am bad at that anyway and why didn't you call if you really needed me?) but I claimed innocence in this case and compared our phones side by side:
Iphone 4 and SGS3.
Message sent 1-2 hours earlier.
Both our numbers are originally 2degrees numbers, never ported.
So I then sent test messages both ways, instantly and successfully recieved, (of course).

I was about to ring 2degrees with the evidence, but suddenly realised I wanted to do other things with the time with my friend...

I also get frequent "message not sent" errors on my Android and have to re-send the message, whereupon it will go through. Very annoying.

I spent some time reading through this whole article and I think the answer is overloading. This would be why they ask for time of day etc.2degrees growth has exceeded all expectations and forecasts and are building new network and patching the existing as fast as they can. People who have been around for a while will remember both Telecom and Beelsouth(Vodafone ) having similar problems. I think txts are best effort so let them get on with it.

They ask for the time of day so they can check to see which texts were having the issues... Do you expect them to just guess?

I jumped from VF to 2D around a year ago (texting my new GF many times a day cost me $60 a day just on prepay).
Think I had more undelivered messages on VF than 2D. Have had a handful on 2D but not since I got a different phone.
Happy with 2D though.

Can someone confirm if 2D use Huawei on network? I'm suspicious of that company to no end :P

I have a piece of monitoring equipment on Vodafone that I text now and then from my phone on 2degrees to check it's status or change settings and over the past 2 years have had no problems. Maybe occasionally texts are delayed by a few minutes, I couldn't say which end it's at because all I see is what happens on the 2degrees end. Not saying other people aren't having problems but just wanted to put my 2c in that I find the service pretty reliable.

Using non ported numbers on both Vodafone and 2d if that makes any difference.

Sorry to see SteveON leave us because of this issue, especially as he's been such a long time and vocal customer over the last few years. :(

Texts can fail or be delayed on any network for a number of reasons as I'm sure you're aware of - coverage, network traffic, phone settings, software issues, connection problems with the Message Centre etc. We'll look into any issues you may have to see what may have caused it and try to resolve it ASAP.

Here's some trouble shooting tips -  http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/help/texts

Our Care team are available 24/7, 365 days if you want me to follow up on an issue please send me a PM with your 2degrees #, name, 2 or 3 examples plus DOB and address (for authentication) and I'll look into it.

Cheers
