Topic # 114490 21-Feb-2013 12:36 Send private message

I have been getting ticked off with the appaling lack of memory (150 MB) in my LG Optimus Net, so decided to phone 2Degrees and see if they had any suggestions. (Also think we might have expected a firmware update some time too.)
It was a total surprise to find there is no hardware support for this phone in New Zealand! 2Degrees CSR said to ring LG. LG said that the P692 is only supported in the UK, not New Zealand. I got back to 2Degrees, who, after much consideration, said something along the lines of "We don't offer any handset support, perhaps you should ask 'a phone repair company' if they can increase the internal storage."

I am very surprised and disappoined that 2Degrees would sell a phone for $300 with no New Zealand support.

The actual lack of memory issue is another thing. I'm going to try Mauricio's suggestions in this forum:

In this topic, I'd be interested if someone from 2Degrees would tell me what their policy is regarding support for handsets they release!

Interesting they said that, because this was the first Snapper phone available and the LG folks were at the launch in full force. This should be well supported down here...

... of course, even if we did find a firmware update, if it is not from 2Degrees, it is not going to support Snapper functionality. (I assume)

This device has so little memory that even if root it and move apps to SD storage you still get low memory warnings just by syncing email and contacts. Any Google Play updates have to be installed manually because the automatic updates download the next app before cleaning up the previous install, causing low memory warnings or installation errors.

Seriously, selling such a low spec device is a disservice to consumers.

I'm not much of a hardware person, but thought the other specs were OK, and didn't realise the gravity of internal memory! It seems much faster than my old IDEOS 8150, except when it crashes or runs out of memory (which the IDEOS almost never does)!
Silly me trusted 2Degrees to use a reasonable phone for such a high-profile launch and $300 price tag!

We are talking internal phone memory - some things just have to be there, and can't run on the SD card (which works fine).

Reality is that this handset was introduced to be a Snapper replacement. The price point was important and feature wise there was no need for a high spec seeing this would be the first smartphone a lot of people would have. Obviously this spec is not good enough once people realise what they can do with smartphones.

makes the soon-to-be-similarly-priced lumia 620 sound like a bargain

Sounds as useless as the 2degrees branded silver with its abysmal internal storage and no usable answer from 2degrees why a phone with their branding all over it (and noone elses) runs out of space by simply putting in a google account and then going into play and updating everything.
