I'm pretty experienced when it comes to mobile data, having been in the game a little while as some of you may know.

In December I got a couple of warnings saying my data was low, I checked my data usage app and it said I was pretty close to my 500MB limit so I spent $10 for another 500 and then thought what the heck and got another 1G for another $20.

The. I started worrying because when I checked my account, I now have a bill for $159. I have never spent more than around $50 ever. All my settings ar it'd down so it can't do any updates over cellular etc, as I said I know my stuff, I was one of the first mobile data consultants in the country.

According to my account online I used more then 1GB just on Saturday morning, yet my data usage meter says My total usage for December was 1009MB.

So I make a special trip to the 2 Degrees store who tell me they can't go by data usage apps and I could have easily used a GB using Skype for an hour. I don't Skype on my mobile. They said yet couldn't help me and said I should call the.help desk.

So I call the help desk and they say they can't help me until the bill comes out. Then I can try to dispute the account. Meantime I have stopped data usage on the mobile altogether, but also checked all the settings and there's are no automatic updates or anything else set up that could cause this.

So visiting the store and seeing someone from 2Degrees face to face doesn't work, funny how a real person sends me to a call centre. The call centre can't help till my bill comes out.

I guess the good news is that I am 4 months out of a contract, so perhaps it's time to see if another carrier wants my business and my recommendations.

Which data usage app are you using? does it show how much data each app is using separately? Once the bill has been completed you will be able to see what day/time each block of data has been used on your login to our website but it does not show what it was used for.

My opinions are purely my own and are not at all those of my employer 2degrees.

I'm using an app called Data Usage by Sigterm. It doesn't tell me how much data I've used by the app, but the total usage for the month says 1012.26MB incl uploads and downloads. I bought a 500MB and a 1GB value pack and my old plan gave me 1GB pm.

When I go on the site to see how much I've used, now it only shows January, I can't even see the rest of the current month any more. My plan expired 4 months ago and included 1GB of data, but it looks like perhaps when the plan came to an end, I stopped getting the extra data and it dropped to 100MB without telling me. If that's the case its a good way of keeping my loyalty.

So I changed to a new plan which looks like it will work for me for now, without signing a new contract as my contact ended 4 months ago and I want to see who wants my business.

The new plan started today and on the website it says I have 310 carryover minutes and 200 bonus minutes of which 100 will expire today. T

So I have around 400 minutes 6 1/2 hours roughly.

So why did I just get the following txt message?

I appreciate the warning, which I didn't get when my $39 plan blew out to $158 which I still can't reconcile. I tried to ring the help-desk, but the message says they are extraordinarily busy this morning.

Faith not restored....

I had a similar thing happen once but it was Apple's fault with their podcast app. Their "Do not download over cellular" was trumped by another setting somewhere else and it downloaded right up to my spend control limit. Lucky I had that.

Hi PDAMan

Please can you PM me your number so I can look into this for you.

You should be able to see the usage on your current month in Your 2degrees or the  2degrees app including the amount of minutes you have left. If you have moved to a new plan you may have lost your accumulated minutes from the other plan.

Cheers

When you called customer care did you speak to the normal agent or did you speak to a data specialist? If you weren't speaking to a data specialist then you would of been talking to someone with only basic training in data.

What? Do you mean that a specialist has only basic training so this person is not actually a specialist at all?

All our front line agents should know this.

Another option would be to check in 'Data Usage' (if you have it) which app is draining the most data. What phone make, model and OS are you using?  ^POB

Data Usage I have the pro version, doesn't tell me usage by app, but it did say that my total usage was just over a GB including up and down, so not sure ultimately who is right or wrong.

Can anyone recommend a good iOS app for a 4S running iOS7 that does report data by app? I don't mind paying for it. Of course then there remains the question why this has never happened to me before and Data Usage has typically agreed with 2Degrees for the 17 months I've had it. p

Many thanks to ^POB for sorting out my account, I'm still baffled, but very appreciative.
