So, you're excited about the new broadband bundles we just announced and you want some for your iPad. How do you do it? Well, you use the text service - send "buy 512mb" to 233, for example to buy the 512MB/1GB bundle.

If you have a 2degrees microSIM (note: this is only possible from a 2degrees microSIM - we think it's an NZ first, actually) go to Settings.

Tap "Cellular Data", and then "SIM Applications" on the right. At the bottom you should see "Send a text".

Voila!

It will send an ordinary SMS, so if you want, you can also use it to send an SMS anywhere, not just to 233. Be aware though that we tried every trick we could think of, but the iPad, while it does actually receive the SMS, refuses to do anything useful with it.

If you don't have a 2degrees microSIM, contact customer care to have one sent out to you, and we'll SIM swap so you can keep any credit or bundles you already have.

Hope that helps!

Very nice. It's a wonder this hasn't been done before. Just topping up my prepaid data card is a pain.

This is pretty good, but an iPad/iPhone app would be better. My guess is now these plans have been released there will be loads more iPad and iPhone users on 2degrees and an app would help with marketing the plans and also a great way to manage the subscriptions on both items.

I have been using 2degrees on my iPhone 3GS since I moved to NZ from the UK in March and have been really happy with the service up to now and have been holding on waiting for 3G to be launched. I wasn't one of the lucky ones to be able to get my hands on an iPhone 4 last week but I did buy an iPad wifi & 3G and have held off on the 3G data as I wanted to go with 2degrees again so this is a good day for me. Off to Dick Smith now in the hope they have the Micro SIMs in stock

Went into a couple of dick smiths and they didn't have any micro sims in stock. One of the stores didn't even know what they were lol.

yeah I rang Dick Smiths in Lyall Bay, Wellington and they didn't seem to know anything about them - thought they might get some tomorrow as that is their general delivery day, but it didn't sound too promising.

2 degrees care to comment about availability?

The one I went to in Christchurch indicated they would have some in later this week but yeah didn't sound too sure about it.

Thanks for saving me a journey, was just about to head to Dick Smiths in Lyall Bay to buy a micro-SIM, probably best to wait now then!

Easiest way is to just ring customer care. They will deliver one to you.

I would have done before but it was announced last week that Dick Smiths would have them from today so thought I'd just get one from there instead of waiting for one in the post!

Fair enough. But it's easier to sign up to Your 2degrees if you do it with a phone, since the iPad doesn't receive SMS (for first time password). Then again, if you don't care about signing up to Your 2degrees then go for it.

I can't tell you which shops have the SIMs though; logistics is completely outside my area.

I will want to sign up to Your 2degrees so will do that with my iPhone before I put it in my iPad (thankfully I have a micro-SIM adapter), thanks for the headsup.

Following your advice I did just call customer care but the very helpful guy suggested I should buy from Dick Smith as believed they should be well stocked! Most likey the DS staff not knowing about them!
