The web site is really puzzling. I went to change plan from $39/month to a 12 month term but nowhere during the process did it say I would get 1G of data. It always said 100MB of data plus some free phone or discount on a phone.
I think the site needs work. I guess I am going to have to call the CSR and hope they can do it manually since it's not clear at all from the site that it's going to work.
A CSR wont be able to set the term for you - they will probably refer you to one of the shops/dealers.
If I was you I would sign up for the term - The t&Cs make it clear that you will get the bonus 1gb - and also I know that it works
Just to add more confusion to the mix a colleague went into the 2D store and asked about the 1G of data. He was told he needed to sign up for a term. But he actually went online to sign up and didn't commit to a term and still got the 1G of data.
The fact that it's national data is really compelling since sometimes I do travel outside the main centres.
