We're based in Hamilton & My wife's 2 degrees plan keeps advising her she's out of zone and needs a national data pack.  I'm not sure what's more annoying: having to pay for a national data pack we seldom use in the monthly fee; being told we have to buy something that we've already been forced to pay for; or the fact that even sitting at the coffee table the thing jumps in and out of zone.

Anyone know how to switch off those messages at least (short of switching back to Telecom, which is likely to be the next step)?  Is it too much to expect Waikato University to be 'in zone' ?

Cheers

Charlie

Thats weard, I used to only get the text once every 24 hours when out of zone. You dont have to buy the pack if you have a plan, it already has national data.

You're only supposed to, that's right. But there's a particular process on the system responsible for replicating profile information between nodes that sometimes gets tied in knots and, well, doesn't. When that happens the profile update that says you've already been nagged today doesn't get set, and you get it the next session, and the next... until someone comes along and boots the loader.

I am guessing that you could turn off data roaming on the phone if its an android phone.
That would resolve it.
Shouldnt stop you being able to make calls....

Sounds like you really are living on the edge!

I suspect the problem is you can still connect to the vodafone network while well within the 2degrees MBB zone that covers Hamilton, my phone does that if the 2degrees signal is weak in a certain area it will connect to vodafone if its stronger.
I don't get why the Vodafone towers have not yet been locked out when the 2deg network in Hamilton has been going for a little while now, I know from travelling to Wellington as soon as I get to waikanae connecting to vodafone becomes impossible and the only option is the 2degrees towers.

Vodafone sites are only locked out when 2degrees covers an entire Vodafone LAC. If we locked out the Hamilton LACs then you would indeed stay locked to 2degrees within our coverage. But you'd also find large patches of the surrounding area now had zero coverage, because the Vodafone LACs out there are very large (geographically), but we only cover the immediate area around the city & suburbs.

Well get back to digging holes for those new towers.

Hope that it has something to do with National data being the same as Broadband data...

I don't want to raise your hopes, it's not about pricing, or National Data being all MBB data or vice versa.

However, please allow me to take the opportunity to remind everyone that the 1GB (per month for a year) on new sign ups to $39 and above Pay Monthly plans BEFORE 1 April is NATIONAL DATA, that can be used in and outside of our canopy. Great value!
