Hmm, interesting...  I wonder if someone's been playing?

I had a resync last night as well; on DLM2 now :_(.  My errors haven't been over ~3.33 in the last 24hrs, so not quite sure what's going on there.  Also, my mysterious SNR drop plus massive error increase has returned...

My SRNM target is still 12db, yet the SNRM has now dropped to 8db:

Yes, that's 3200 CRC error an hour. Going to do resync after I do a little downloading.

That's quite odd...

There's something weird going on here; I'm getting wildly fluctuating error rates:

BTW, I've discovered that you can modify the SNRM via config hacking in increments of 1 = 0.1db. Quite handy for fine tuning connection speeds!

As of about 5:30 this morning I have a DLM change:

Yes, I'm on a 17a profile now! That connection is with SNRM target set to 14db (middle notch). I believe the people who previously had 17a profiles had a 8 or 9db target set by DLM so it's interesting that mines so high. Also interesting is that the attenuation is higher (7 vs 5), but that makes sense since higher frequencies are in use. Check out the ridiculous under-utilization of the upload bands:

Ha! Nice!!

So what was your CRCPM at just before the change?

If only there was a way to adjust the upstream snrm!

It's been bizarrely high for the last few weeks, about 40 CRC/min:

Even with the SNRM target set to the middle notch I was only getting a SNRM of 11db. It looks like DLM was trying to set a SNRM target of 9 or 10db. Obviously Chorus have been making some changes.

Adjusting the upstream SNRM target wouldn't help us unfortunately because the limit is set on the DSLAM.

That's crazy man!

Interesting progression tho, it put you on 17a despite the high errors! I imagine that you were selected for 17a upgrade because of your low attenuation.

stevehodge:

My spectrum is quite different from that 17a spectrum in the first post. Chorus must have changed the 17a frequency allocation. There's some odd things about mine: the gap around carrier 1024 which is usually the first upstream band but for me is completely unused, and there seems to be another unused section around carrier 1792. For Napster that was part of the 2nd downstream band. His 1st downsteam band was slightly wider as well. It looks to me like there might be as much as 40Mbps worth of bandwidth that is still not in use, not including the extra upstream capacity that could be used in the existing upstream bands. I'm not sure my connection could manage the 100/50Mbps of fibre but I think it could get pretty close if Chorus would allow it.

So anyone else been put on 17a?

Yeah, who knows what changes they've made lately. It could also be dynamic depending on your line.

Are you still on this profile?  I wonder if we could get anyone from Snap or Chorus to confirm that they are putting people on 17a profile now as I am pretty sure nobody else was getting there automatically only testers that got manually put on it as far as I could see.

Yes. My error rate on 17a has been much better than I was seeing on 8b so I switched back to max performance last night and the Fritz reconnected on 17a. My sync rate is now 61624 and I'm getting about 0.28 CRC/min.

My understanding was that Chorus had stopped putting people on 17a manually and it didn't seem to be happening via DLM. I suspect that they've changed the 17a profile (as my spectrum is quite different from the previous 17a spectrum on this thread) and have set DLM or another system to move people onto it automatically. For me the change happened at about 5:33am on Saturday morning so it seems unlikely to have been a manual change. Hopefully some other people will switched over and it won't turn out to be some sort of mistake.

I have mine set not to sync every night so I was connected for 6 weeks and tonight tried a manual resync.  Stayed on DLM1.  My stats are pretty close to yours so hoping it will get a profile upgrade.

Mine's also set not to reconnect each night. The sync that put me on 17a was not initiated by me.

What's your attenuation? How far to the cabinet? Mine attenuation was 2db on ADSL and 5db in the 8b profile. The cabinet is at the end of my drive way, there is likely to be about 120m wire. I'm down a right-of-way with a number of other houses so I think I am getting a bit of crosstalk on the ADSL frequencies though and I have had pretty high error rates at times.
