Topic # 109792 26-Sep-2012 22:17 Send private message

Now that I have my internet set-up and working through the FRITZ!Box, I have got a hold of some old firmware so that i can put in into modem only mode.

Does anyone know how to set up TomatoUSB (shibby on Asus N-66) to have a WAN connection over PPPoE that has the VLAN10, as required by snap?

Depends entirely what MTU your ISP supports. 1492 is reasonably typical.

I'm using these settings for this:
My modem is a RTA1320v6 and my router is a RT-N16 running Tomato v1.28.7500 MIPSR2Toastman-RT K26 USB VLAN-Ext.

Modem:

Router:

IPv4 works fine, but Toastman's implementation of IPv6 is rather temperamental unfortunately (radvd keeps crashing, and needs to be started with a custom .config file to get v6 working).

Dunno, I'm connected right now with it on LLC.

The VLAN10 config goes in the modem or whatever device you're using for that. On the router just setup the PPPoE part as usual.

My modem doesn't support 802.1q tagging, so I have to do it via my router.
If your modem supports it, by all means use that instead.

I'm running UFB on Asus RT-N16 Tomato Toastman (non-VLAN). I simpy executed this in command (Administration > Scripts - INI Tab)

nvram set vlan10hwname=et0
nvram set vlan10ports="0t 8"
nvram set wan_ifnameX=vlan10
nvram commit

Rebooted, then it worked.

Thanks, for the feedback I'll try those settings again. I have the FRITZ!Box provided by snap so maybe it just doesn't work on that. Might try with a different router

When I asked here about options for bridging with the Fritzbox a couple of people said they'd tried just about everything to get it working (including the old firmware versions with that as an option) and couldn't get it to work. Considering they removed it from the firmware, maybe there were issues with it all along? The Fritzbox seems like a really good piece of kit, but I still wish I could use my gargoyle router with it (without double NATing)

Ok that's really helpful. I might just give up on it until I get a new modem (sell the fritz box). It works alright with DMZ only one set of port forwarding but that's not ideal
