I'm currently on Snap ADSL2 and I tried calling Snap for VDSL upgrade. The person on the phone told me I shouldn't upgrade to VDSL because I live too far from the cabinet. My current line status are: What I thought strange was I was syncing at around 18000Mbps with Snap at the end of last year, and around 21000Mbps with Slingshot a few years back. I've also got a splitter installed yesterday that didn't seem to change my sync rates, so I'm guessing the problem shouldn't be down on my end. Is it possible that I got moved to another cabinet further away from where I was?

VDSL is not that same as ADSL2. VDSL runs on different hardware so it will act differently. Just use ADSL2 and wait for UFB. What the person said on the end of the phone was correct, you're too far away.

you have the same werid thing as me, with surprisingly high downstream attenuation compared to upstream attenuation. are you within the "green" area on the chorus maps too? i think it's probably some kind of external issue, but as you're over 10 megabit sync rate probably unlikely to be resolved.

Only if waiting for UFB was that easy, I currently get "UFB deployment dates for your area are still being developed" and I'm like 50m outside the zone. What I'm having issue with is I had 18000sync at the end of last year and just in a few months time somehow my attenuation jumped significantly. SamF: How far away ARE you from the cabinet? I'm not sure, I'm guessing 600-800m. I had heard that ideally you must be within 1km. Chorus likes to keep people on their toes :) all internet was brown on the other, i checked it out, like i'm at 17 db attenuation, and it says i should be capable of 20 megabit plus too, even though it was 14 megabit at the road on their little tool, and 14 megabit on my line using my modem. it's gone down now though, and attenuation has gone up.

But then, your distance wont be a straight line to the exchange and I suppose it still depends on the quality of the wiring. in my situation for instance, i'm 600 metres by road, on the same street, and the same side of street as cabinet. and there's really no other way to go than down the street, and there are no side streets in between. the only explanation is it could be going up the street then back again, or some other kind of broken thing. but i think in my instance it could be that there are longer lines being fed from the same cabinet as me outside the vdsl coverage area. if they expanded vdsl everywhere wouldn't be as many long lines. the best connection i've ever had on dsl i was about 200 to 300 metres from cabinet on same side of street and synced over 20 megabit. but i think it was one of those "vdsl everywhere" areas.

DS is 26.5 from memory, but I'm at work and can't check US. I'm not sure what's "normal" for US though!
