I'm looking at Snap as a new ISP. Call me blind, but I can't see on their website how much extra data costs? I can see this, but can't find how much an extra data block costs: * Once you reach your data limit, your connection will be slowed down to 64kbps for the remainder of the month. You can purchase additional data at this time if you choose.

Additional data chunks are available for purchase online with prices starting at $3 for one gigabyte. That's all I can see, hidden away under Broadband Support

Yeah I managed to find that, but surely you can buy more cost effective quantities?

I assume so with the "starting at", but you're right I can't find anything else either. Probably best to give them a call or send them an e-mail

im lookin at changing to snap's night owl plan which is fs/128 with throttling between 7am and 7pm and full speed from 7pm to 7am. suits me fine as im at work all day and i can do my downloading during those hours. i just hope the speed throttle isnt 56kb/s. with all of the digital content on websites these days, the barest minimum required speed would need to be 256kb/s. cost is $49.95 no tolls included. seems like a pretty good price i think. anyone else on this plan and can give some feedback? - Telstra HTC Touch Pro2 - Energy ROM WM6.5.5 20 Oct/Cyanogen Mod Froyo 2.2 - R.I.P - AT&T Galaxy S Captivate 16GB on XT (now with brother) - Samsung Galaxy S2 on XT- Runs ICS 4.0.3 Resurrection Remix 9.2 - Business Hours - Work In The Electricity Industry, After Hours - DJ/Turntablist - Will Scratch Vinyl For Free' - What's next??? Current extra data prices are as follows: 1gb = $3 5gb = $12.50 10gb = $22.00 20gb = $40.00 50gb = $80.00 100gb = $140.00 Keep in mind that extra data applies to your current period only. It doesn't carry over into your next period, so its probably best to get an idea of how much you're going to be using before you start buying blocks of data. Online usage is updated approximately every 5 minutes and is visible through your account login on the Snap website. Also Snap Nightowl rate limits to 128k (up and down) during the 7am - 7pm period.

Yup just got an email back from them stating the same. It's a big expensive TBH. I'll stick with Slingshot.

Could someone who is on this post some speedtests to Los Angeles, wondering if I should sign up to the Night Owl plan as for $40 a month for unlimited nighttime downloading sounds pretty sweet to me! Tyler - Parnell Geek - iPhone 3G - Lenovo X301 - Kaseya - Great Western Steak House, these are some of my favourite things.

This is exactly that time of the day people go back home, and after dinner want to have a bit of browsing, use Trade Me, download their e-mails. And that's goiing to coincide with heavy downloaders wanting to take advantage of the full speeds. I am sorry but I don't believe that some heavy downloaders would take in consideration their fellow users and schedule their downloads to happen during day time (7am through 7pm). There is lots of comments in our forums that show this - "I am paying for it so I want it full speed", "I want the service I am entitled to", etc. Believe me, I agree. There shouldn't exist limits if there's "unlimited" in the name or description of a plan. But it seems most ISPs do this to attract new users and completely disregard growth management and planning. There must exist something else - is Snap reducing speeds for P2P protocols at those "full speed" times, to guarantee service to other more common services? Unlimited at $49.95 seems to me another Xtra Go Large, Woosh, Slingshot, Xnet waiting to happen... My guess is that they are using this as marketing... It's for "a limited time only", so once they found the marketing to have worked, and data usages are blowing out, they'll stop this plan for new sign-ups.... Besides, "Full Speed" is such a wishy-washy term. I would guess that if they "throttle" it to about 2-3Mbps Down, users will already be pretty happy....

They don't actually state an upload speed... 128k upload is what I'm expecting (unlimited at night for $40 is mind-blowing if it works), so the most you could get would be around 4mbps anyway. Possible ways to restrict an "unlimited" plan like this would be: to throw everyone on one server or pool (conjuring up Go Large thoughts...) watch over usage and recommend a "better" plan when a user goes over a "excessive" amount "manage" specific types of data (like P2P) let massive traffic flow decimate speeds (stupid though) Ugh... "unlimited" will never be unlimited in the purest sense. Find me on Twitter! I posted 1, 2 x 10^3 times!

Unlimited at $49.95 seems to me another Xtra Go Large, Woosh, Slingshot, Xnet waiting to happen... from the discussions over at www.gpforums.co.nz it seems this is a Christchurch based ISP which has a lot of huge commercial customers including a university, and it's a good way to sell off their unused offpeak bandwidth. This would make sense because their clients onpeak time would be 7am till 7pm.
