Then add $20 for the conspiracy against rural users.

Taken from https://signup.snap.net.nz/university/dsl

Sorry the University Campus plans are temporarily unavailable. Snap is reviewing the speeds, data caps and prices. We will have new plans available 15/02/10. Any questions feel free to call our helpdesk on 0800 500 638

I presume that means these plans will be announced then too :(

We hope to have the residential plans released before then, but I suppose you could hold us to that date if you wanted. We have a couple more things than just new plans to wet your lips too, no details just yet though I'm afraid.

raydenl: I think they are pretty cool, hell I even developed what I believe is still the only Snap usage meter (who would maintain it???).

Speaking of which.. did you notice the bug with the billing period calculation over the new year?

If you do jump, I'd be happy to take your code and maintain it ;)

Hi RalphfromSnap,

I've been following this thread with interest.  How will the new plans affect the features and pricing of the lower tier broadband plans (Snap Broadband A and B)?  Is the landline pricing due to change as well?

I want to upgrade to broadband from dialup and am tossing between joining Snap and Slingshot.  I would join Snap based on its good reputation and customer service, but Slingshot's new broadband pricing structure, off-peak downloading and ability to carry unused blocks of data from previous months is very appealing.  However, what I've read of Slingshot's (lack of) customer service and tech support leaves me feeling cold.

The rural exchange I'm in is ASDL capable but isn't due to be unbundled in the current rollout round, so the naked DSL plan isn't an option.

Can you give a hint of what the new plans will be?  Thanks! Smile

Deb

Howdy,

Yes, the majority of our pricing will change, but our entry level price point will remain approximately the same (but be fullspeed/fullspeed!). I wouldn't expect too much deviation from our current prices - just the way they are presented and billed for will be different.

Cheers.

Awesome, thanks for that titbit Ralph!  FS/FS - Snap is looking better and better!

If I join now, can I move straight onto the equivalent new plan when they come out?  Or will I have to pay penalty fees if I want to transfer to an improved plan before 12 months is up?  Thanks.

Cheers
Deb

Ha ha, yeah saw that. It has been fixed and a new version released. On the "About" dialog, a new version should be available to download.

I have decided to stay with Snap, only because trying to change to Slingshot made my head ache. Trust me, I gave it a good shot! Will wait and see what shiny new offerings Snap repleases before attempting to jump ship again.

You wouldn't be disconnecting from us, just changing plan - charging you for that would be absurd! (though some of our competitors would disagree)

Cheers,
Ralph.

Hi Ralph:

I'm wondering whether will there be new pricing schemes to the Naked DSL plans as well?

Thanks.

I just want to hijack my own thread for a moment and have a rant. I started this thread because I am moving house this weekend, and wondered whether I should change ISP at the same time.

I am sick of nDSL (bad call quality, PAT2T having to be checked everyday to make sure it is still connected - disconnects itself a few times every week). I thought I'd go to Slingshot (cheaper plans). That's too hard for them because I don't have an active phone line. They tell me to arrange a Telecom line then they can transfer it over.

So I arrange Telecom to setup a line on Sat morning. In the meantime I decide to stay with Snap as they are changing their plans, and figure changing ISP and phone company at the same time will go very very wrong.

Snap now tells me since I have chosen a different phone provider (i.e Telecom), it will probably be middle of next week before I'm setup. Well I didn't really want to go with Telecom, I was just told by Slingshot that that was the only way I could get a phone line after having nDSL.

I'm not directing this at either company, merely ranting about how frustrating the entire process is.

I feel a little better now.
