Hi, upon looking at the plans for naked dsl ( im on this hence i looked ) i was shocked to find that naked dsl B got an extra 10gb added to it and no change in the cost, i ask myself why didnt naked dsl A get a sniff even 5gb extra data? with isps such as this isp creaming on extra useage that people buy and dont/cant use then your obiously able to throw away bandwidth willy nilly on plans without a price raise.. i have been with snap for 3 months and frankly you wont see me vote for them at all. its a pitty im tied to a contract for the year. very poor isp really. lets goto the snap office next friday morning for smoko.

John they have just changed the plans etc and the problem isnt the fact of the plans etc its everything about snap. buying extra data, find one cant quite use it. what? no refunds raise the bandwidth on some plans and not others and they cost the same. what? advantage of being a isp i guess let me add this i pay $120 per month for a computer in the USA with 8000GB bandwidth included, all new zealand isps are a rip off really. thats $120 per month for this Dell AMD Phenom Quad Core 9600+ (4X2.3GHz) 2 GB DDR2 Ram 250 GB SATA2 Hard Drive 8000GB Data Transfer 100 Mbps Connection 5 Free IP Addresses Data center: Portland, Oregon note most datacenters in the usa offer anything from 3000GB to 8000GB bandwidth per month or even 100mbit unmetered ports and ip blocks, here in new zealand we are charged like a wounded bull for this type of stuff.

Wow, you don't understand the New Zealand market do you? New Zealand = isolated islands with small population (4 million) spread out over a large difficult area (low density). USA = large country, financial and technology mecca, 305 million people living close together. The sheer cost of providing internet access in this country is hundreds of times that as the US (we only have the Southern Cross Cable for our access). Plus you are quoting a dedicated server rental which will be in a large data centre with multiple gigabyte connections to US backbones, consumer internet access is a completely different kettle of fish. Most ISP's in the USA either restrict bandwidth to their consumer clients or are moving towards restricting it in the future. In NZ its estimated to cost the ISP atleast $1NZD per gig for consumer broadband to provide. In the US it's a 100th of this.

Wow, I could buy that computer straight out for about $500 and you are paying per month for it.....120 on a 12 month contract I guess? Not a smart option. and what's the point in having 8000gb a month if you only have a 250gb hdd?, that's like "oops HDD is full" every day I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

Have you even come close? Its one thing to offer such wonderfully large quotas, its another to actually get use of it. They may as well give you an unrestricted 100mbs port, you wouldn't be able to push that much through it anyway, the hardware would be the bottleneck. Anyway, the issue here is that NZ broadband is priced the way it is due to the sheer cost of providing it. In the US and other countries they have economy of scale to lower the costs, in NZ we don't.

Or does it sit in the data centre all the time? And all data/emails/photos stored on it, will belong the company you are renting it from? So you need a second PC at home to access the primary PC? if so, that means you need another broadband plan ontop of that one? So it goes: Your PC - Broadband plan A - Data Centre PC - Broadband plan B? Hi Andrew, Snap Naked A is $69.95 for 10GB. Snap Naked B was $89.95 for 20GB, $20 for a difference of 10GB. Extra data on Snap Naked A is $2/GB (10GB is $20). Snap Naked DSL A is very much where we want in in the market which is why it went unchanged. Snap Naked B however, needed some attention. Our Broadband plans were also changed around due to our removal of 256k/128k and FS/128k plans, we feel that these rate limited plans aren't a step in the right direction for bettering the quality of Internet connections in NZ. Purchasing extra data easily done on our website and if you buy a 20GB and only use 7GB of it then perhaps in future you could buy a 5GB and a 2.5GB block instead? Data banking could be a possibility in the future however we have no immediate plans for this due to Forecasting and Technical limitations. As people have pointed out already in this thread, comparing New Zealand to other countries for internet, data and hosting services is a quick march in the wrong direction. I'm disapointed we won't get your vote (for ?) and if you're keen for the 200km drive north to Christchurch for smoko, I'll find some scones and put the jug on. I'm more than happy to entertain reasonable requests. I actually Welcome the new plans, I do recommend friends to Snap plus it's New Zealand, what more do you expect? The Government are spending loads of money on new cabinets and fibre all over NZ to try and get Broadband to most of us, that's a big ask, they have to get their money back somehow don't they? Anyway that's off the topic a little bit, Snap provide excellent service at a reasonable rate for New Zealand, you ever tried calling their 0800 number? You're always treated as a individual in a kind and helpful way - for example, we were having speed issues so I phoned up Snap, got answered straight away and was like "Yeah i'm experiencing slow internet" - they said they will have the matter sorted the next day, and you know what? It actually was truly sorted, I can stream Youtube finally again. There are other ISP's out there right? Or as John stated AirNZ will gladly take you to America where you can experience that awesome internet you're talking about.
