people in new zealand have been downloading stuff for 10 years plus without a hitch. nek minute this comes


Yeah I know, people have been stealing cars and killing people for years... Shouldn't that be legal by now?

AviZ: im unsure how this is to be tracked really, if one downloads we'll say win 7 from a torrent site, microsoft arnt gonna know who downloaded it and from what site....

so how is this tracked again?

nek minute the isp tells microsoft and microsoft supply a dmca...



Companies like Peer Media Technologies have systems that scour P2P networks like Gnutella, BitTorrent, etc, for copyright infringing content on behalf of groups like the MPAA and RIAA and log IP addresses of those sharing the files. This is why sites like Rapidshare/Mediafire and protocols like Usenet are almost "immune" to this sort of thing — they aren't peer to peer: you're directly downloading from a server from companies that aren't willingly going to hand you over.

Also, stop using the braindead "nekk minute" meme in every post. It's not funny.

Companies don't track YOU. They track IP addresses and submit to the ISPs. The ISP will confirm the information required for a complaint is provided, the fee is paid, then it will warn the user. YOUR information is not passed to the companies.
