Napster: Yea cache is working fine, but getting the content that's not on the cache is slow.

Content coming from cache i avg 2MB/s
Content coming from overseas 200-400KB/s

Exactly, its not a cache issues. More just where content is distributed. Just because you upload it from your snap connection does not mean it will upload to the Snap Cache.

Finally got a speed from youtube and have sent an email with other details.

Hopefully you can help us out as watching in 240p and having to pause to allow videos to buffer is not fun, cheers.

Why do I get difference results for my "ISP"?  Here Snap seems to average 7Mbps but in your graphs it seems to be lower.

Ahhh... is it because I'm routed through Christchurch?  (Your graphs say Auckland).

Hi, any progress on this issue or is it something isolated to a few of us, I'm still having to wait for videos to buffer at 240p :(

yep its fixed alright a 8min video taking 25 mins to fully buffer.

speed test show 9.5 mbit down so why the slow speed and this is on 360p and its worse on the higher ones.

this only is youtube any other place like vimeo is fast as hell..

Must remember to pass on the requested information.

While everything else was as normal last night (including downloading at 1.2MB/sec) YouTube (not at the same time as downloading though) was buffering constantly. Took me over ~10 minutes to buffer a 4 minute video.

Hi All,

Can people noticing YouTube issues please post the following,

Resolve (Ping) cache.l.google.com and post what IP Address it resolves too
Can you let us know what part of the country your DSL connection is? (or let us know what type of connection your are using, it only seems to be reported from DSL)
A traceroute to cache.l.google.com might be handy too.

Also if you view a video and buffers horribly, if you view it again does it still buffer? on the 2nd view it should (although you never know as this is up to Google) be on the cache.

its also interesting that some people have quoted that changing their DNS to 8.8.8.8 fixes the issue, as Google DNS is clever enough to not break its own CDN in this case (it will still break local Akamai etc) we would be interested for people to do the same thing with 8.8.8.8 as their DNS, and repeat the same tests as above - only if it is working better on Google DNS of course!

Thanks,
Mark
