Sauce BBC File-sharing site The Pirate Bay must be blocked by UK internet service providers, the High Court has ruled. The Swedish website hosts links to download mostly-pirated free music and video. Sky, Everything Everywhere, TalkTalk, O2 and Virgin Media must all prevent their users from accessing the site. And so the censorship of the internet begins. Im quite suprised that we weren't the first country to do this but don't fear its only a matter of time before we follow suit!

sorry, but its been shown you cant block websites and in this case it is not even hard to get around it , you just have to switch to an open DNS to access it, when will the companies realize that blocking website is not the answer.

I don't think the point is how easy it is to get around. The fact they are allowing individual websites to be blocked is the worrying fact.

You can download all TPB magnet links if you want to as it's less than 100MB. One site goes another 6 start up. You can also find all these magnets links with a google search so no need to even visit TPB website. Computer Repairs Whangarei Remote Support

In a way I agree with this shutdown. Lets get real, the pirate bay is 99% about piracy, there is very little legitimate material there. eg, click the top 100 musics torrents, and it is all illegal. Sure, you can try and justify piracy in so many ways, but it is still taking material without paying for it.

I think what people are most interested in is not so much that TPB is being blocked - because you're right, it's purpose is right there in the name - it's more that it is the thin end of the wedge. First they came for [whoevers] and I did nothing, because I was not a [whoever], and all that. iPad + iPhone 4S + 2degrees 3G data 4tw! Youtube for the first 3-4 years of it's life was mainly pirated material? How about Google/Bing seen as they list any file on any file sharing site? You can 'justify' blocking TPB any way you like but with the same logic I can also 'justify' blocking 100's of legitimate sites people use everyday.

Youtubes primary purpose is video sharing. In the early years of Youtube more than 50% of content was copyrighted material. The primary purpose of TPB is a torrent database, just because the majority of torrents are illegal has nothing to do with it. Similar to dropbox, it is for file storage. If I upload only illegal material doesn't mean a whole country should block it.
