Well Im off to try to return the vigo to the warehouse tomorrow. The apad from PB blitzes it in every way, and the wifi is so bad its a joke, constant freezing where the notification tray wont even pop up etc doing basic things like browsing.

I might entertain the idea of paying the difference to get the 10", but only if its an ok tablet.

Should have an easy out for returning it, which I will disclose once I am sucessful (or not)

They wanted to swap it since that is what the book said to do.

Replacement has the same absolutly hopeless wifi reception, random lagging even entering text before I had added my google account. I used another account on it this time and still the same laggyness so its not the massive amount of emails doing it.

And the blue led is always on with this one too, have to power off to get it to go out. Its really bright and directional and in your face when trying to use it which is totally unaceptable. Black insulation tape will solve it like it does all appliances with retardedly bright blue LEDs but it shouldnt be on all the time.

Oh, cheers Jaxson. Hey I was looking for a generic protective rubber case for 7" tablets over the last few days so did a bit of window shopping while looking. No one is selling them, guess I'll have to check Trademe. Prefer a shop to get brownie points with, from a 'real person' supplier (instead of virtual faceless Trademe supplier), Warrentees are risky on trademe, no matter what anyone says, don't trust faceless folks. No offence chaps.
Today I was at the new Electronic shop at, I think, 200 West Coast Road, Glen Eden (old 'Curves' womens gym) where they have the last(?!) Aniol Tablet.  Didn't check whether it was ver. I or II. Felt good to use, remembered the good reviews, but not enough to state facts on it for me in 5mins testing.  Also at Kelston Shopping centre, the first Electronics shop, closest to the main entrance, there were white 7" Tablets, something like model p47a with chinese charators on the back. I had a good play with that one and found it to be way lighter than the VIGO 7" with a smaller bezzel around the screen and a 5v 1500ma demand compared to the VIGO's 5v 2000ma. Less draw perhaps with cigarette lighter type adaptors when on the run(?!) and 5v USB charging/draining. The shop owner said he, and the guy from the shop next door (who didn't stock that brand himself, go figure) both owned this make because it was "the best budget 7" tablet in NZ". Who knows for sure huh, sales talk? but he did say he would sell one for $189 cash instead of $209, and as I say, they both owned one. More investigation needed there, I make no claims. As I say, I was looking for a silcon/rubber case surround and got distracted, hehe.  You other guys here are getting great deals on boxing days specials, better to to go with known discount brands for sure 'round the $200 price mark, but my 2cents anyhow.    Personal: I won't be buying an android tablet myself, yet, but have bought and recommened them for others, and have setup ipads and iphones for mutimedia distribution/receiving for clients a few times now. XMBC is a great app with UMS on the back end to serve to iOS, Android, win8, linux....and Why no tablet I feel you shurk? I mainly need to VPN to PC's/servers (and different OS's on VMware) on the road with a keyboard and 3G with windows 7 (where the money is, still) using me cheap Acer netbook 522 (with bios 100% AO522 BIOS AO522 BIOS Acer 1.12 A A UlkdMenus ByCamiloml and BrazosTweaker_x64_Setup V1.0.7). Point being, a 10" internet 'tablet' (size) running any OS I need (500GB HDD) with keyboard giving solid multitasking 6-7 hour battery!!!! (due to stable undervolted, cpu/gpu/bus). Try that array from a standalone tablet = fail (sadly). Ehh, nuf there, off topic, you did ask...
Here's a fact with the VIGO 7" wifi tho... Great reception for me when I tested for 3+ hours straight over a distance of 20m+, through a wooden wall from a TP-Link TD-W8960N v3 Router with 20/40MHz (300Mbps) 11bgn switched to only 20MHz (150Mbps) 11bgn for stability. Panasonic VT30 on wifi still streams fine quality at 150MHz for realtime transcoding or internet HD youtube so don't need fickle 300Mbps bandwidth per single wifi device. I can't android and watch Streaming TV anyhow. Rest of the network is wired, so never issues there.

Err, Richms, "The Warehouse , The Warehouse, where EVERYONE gets a bargain(?) and a 30 DAY MONEY BACK GUARENTEE!
No?
I returned 2 faulty ones untill the 3rd was sweet (not wifi issues though). I dressed up nice, had a shave, smelt good and was very polite to all staff, made light banter an alie of staff hastles with VIGO's customers issues...put my case forward and called their bluff on it being faulty...it was.
Wifi not performimg properly is a 'fault'. The customer is always right.  Test it on another wifi to 'prove the fault' of "Bad reception" causing it to not to perform as advertised and God willing, refund...
eg. "Management please, look, see, it just doesn't connect properly, including your network good Warehouse Manager, Sir/Madam... Would you purchase this in confidence for your home?" await responce...
"hmmm, err, umm" would at least be an admission of an accepted 'issue', no? and then stare politely at them waiting for some words to follow.
Who knows dude, try again.

$150 7 incher again today:

http://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/red/redalert/product/847275000164

Low res screen though.

As an aside, can you turn off that stupid 'wire frame' type animation Android seems to present when you swipe between home screens?  Having used an ipad, the rectangle frame that appears when you swipe to each screen frustrates me.

These are pretty decent but about standard price if you're getting them from Asia. Battery less than 3000mAH, resolution of 800x480 and 512MB RAM. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Ainol-novo-7-mars-android-4-0-ICS-tablet-pc-7-HD-1024x600-1GHz-1GB-DDR3/524204878.html might be a slightly better tablet in that price range considering it has a better battery and 1GB RAM.

Edited: Sorry I just realised the price mentioned in your link is NZD. Yeap pretty decent price I think :)

Experience with a VIGO 10 inch ICS tablet from Warehouse Stationery:

1:  On the stand as $248.  Charged $299.  Explanation - oh the 248 is the old single core, this is the dual core....

2: Bought as a Christmas present for m'lady.  Its not getting pushed to any extremes atm

3: Ran fine straight out of the box.

4: Wireless signal is tenuous, but workable.  Christmas family feasting and celebrations were held at the outlaws and the tablet struggled to talk to their wireless router at only 10-ish meters distance and through a floor/wall combination.  But it got there.  At home it runs fine (the silly little Vodafone standard white artpiece router...) in the same room and upstairs (7-ish meters).  Enough signal for youtube and the likes.

5: Lots of battery capacity.

6: Screen response etc all fine.  Viewing angles ok with out being "oh WOW!!!!"

7:  No issues so far accessing apps at the Play store - seems to access anything we want to date.

8:  Will be investigating connecting to the Vodafone 3G Vodem next.  Any advice gratefully received.

9: Speakers (such as they are...) are on the back.  Dumb industrial design feature of the year.

10:  Easy to bump the power button sending the device into a short sleep.

11:  Camera is, well, better than my Instamatic 126 that I proudly owned as a 12yo in the 1970's.

12: Will be adding a 32gb card to it and trying out movies and the such including the HDMI output.  Update once that's acheived....

Overall assessment to date: doing everything they said it would, and no issues.  Gotta be a solid 8/10

I purchased one today, battery is ok. I'll put it through it's paces tomorrow but it lasted more than 6hrs today using it on and off (playing short HD clips, playing Angry Birds, web browsing etc.) The real downside to these tablets is the lack of GPS and bluetooth.

Can't edit my own post for some reason?

Been using my new VIGO 7" for the last couple of days and pretty much agree with aardvarkash. I was surprised to be honest how well it runs games. I purchased Final Fantasy 3 (3d remake) thinking that if it didn't work I'm going to get a more powerful tablet at some stage in the future anyway, but it runs like a charm, graphics are somewhere in the vicinity of FF7 on the PS. The thing it struggles with the most surprisingly is web browsing, Chrome is barely usable half the time, Maxthon is better but still sluggish. The default email app wouldn't let me log in but K9-Mail did with exactly the same settings so it may have a bug in it. Although I've read people have been having problems signing into slingshots SMTP server via tablets on this forum somewhere. No rear camera is a bitch. I'd give it a 7/10.

Oh and it does have GPS I was just being impatient.

Major Crisis! Angry Birds won't work on Deb's Alcatel One Touch T10! Everything else is going fine (Kobo error - ref earlier post - was user error), but she has installed three different AB apps, and each one simply gives her a flash screen, then switches to the home desktop. App appears to be running, but tapping on it just goes back to home desktop. Any suggestions? Is there another forum where I should post this?

I'm tentative....   as much as I'd like one I don't know if I can justify the $ for one, seeing how little i really use my nexus7.
