Was in Stationary Warehouse today and heard the store sales-geek telling a punter that "...these units are made exclusively for us.". They were looking at the larger 9.7 Vigo unit. Hmmmmmm.....

I just got a Icoo D50 from deal extreme. It was $90 NZD landed. So fa, so good. It's got the Mali 400 GPU (but am sceptical) so will see how it handles media screen is bright enough, and responsive (capacitive) Surprisingly connects to the wifi at a faster rate than my Transformer Tf300 (150 Mbps vs 72 ) It's for hanging on the fridge for the shopping & recipes. Maybe it will be used as an e-reader too. The true test will be the battery life, and I'll test that tonight with some video playing and see if it will play back some HD movies.

Most Mali-400 GPU are multiple core and a quick NenaMArk 2 GPU test will tell you where you stack up against the other Mali-400MP GPU If you can get 38+ FPS on you tab, I'd say you have a keeper. Most of the Samsung Galaxy S II with a Mali-400MP GPU clock over 45FPS on the Android NenaMark 2 GPU benchmark. NenaMark 2 on Google Play Store

Personally I always go for a brand name. eg sony, samsung apple etc. And that goes for everything. You may save a bit with a housebrand or no name generic, but they usually aren't there in terms of quality. I have purchased no name/housebrands in the past, but I have always been disappointed. Although it is different for things like Milk, which mostly all comes from the same place.

NenaMark 2 on Google Play Store I've just picked up an AMPE A85 Deluxe running Android 4.0.3 while i was over in Beijing last week for $120. Its AllWinner A10 cpu supposed to be 1.5GHz but currently locked to a max of 1GH and has the Mali-400 GPU. Its an 8" tablet with a 1024x768 display, forward/reverse cameras and 16GB of storage, running Android Overall a handy unit for the price and will do while my daughter is at her current age as I don't expect it to last long. In fact I'm beginning to wish I'd picked up two. Just ran the NenaMark2 on it and got 22.4 fps which is Ok (ish). Also ran the Quadrant Standard Benchmark which got 1682 Any other A10 based android users on the forum? Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat New Zealand as a Solution Architect for all things Linux, Virtual and of course Cloud. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.

I saw one in store and the screen isn't as good as the nexus 7 but it a lot cheaper. Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?

Can't be a good sign! http://www.slatedroid.com/ I'd pay a little extra and buy the Nexus instead if I were you or if you're hellbent on paying around that... perhaps look at the Ainol Aurora 2.

^ yeah I'd avoid buying a cheap chinese tablet that hasn't been reviewed a lot and doesn't have any developer support on xda. Stick to the common well liked cheap chinese tablets or get a nexus 7. HTPC - Intel i3-2100 / 12GB / 13TB Storage / HD4670 / HVR2200 / Win 7 x64 + MediaPortal 1.3 Final PC - Intel e8600 / 8GB / HD5830 / Win7 x64

Nexus 7 (second-hand, thanks heaps stevenz!) blows away my Ainol Novo Aurora 2: * better screen (i love high density displays) * browser is way faster * touch is far better sensitivity and accuracy and doesn't have dead zone at edges * looks way more stylish * Aurora 2 had other small niggles (even with CM10) * WiFi connects really fast and doesn't drop out Downsides are: no HDMI out, and needs OTG cable (or WiFi) for extra storage. So if you want to get a tablet, I personally think either buy something way cheap or get a Nexus 7... I *

Plays my HD movies, and handles plex pretty well. Got 27.8 fps in nenamark2 I was more impressed that it plays isky in fullscreen with no stutter / tearing etc.' Just tried my Asus TF301, and got a nice 56.6 fps

I probably wouldn't have picked it for me but for my friend's use (play a few games, watch movies, read e-books) it should be ok. Does anybody know what the battery life is like on the 7 inch Vigo?

My friend with the Vigo is overseas at the moment, and not due back for another week or so, so I can't ask her how she's finding the battery life. She hasn't complained to me about the battery and I know she's been reading e-books and watching movies on it.
