The fact that the Note2 is coming out with Jellybean, is that an indicator of the same for other recent devices (SGS3)? Last I saw was Samsung saying "soon" for that particular update. Still I guess that leaves them 6 weeks to get rid of any bugs thrown up by the 'leaked' JB rom.
One thing that did occur to me though. Is there anything special about the Note screen (apart from the size) for use with this new stylus? I wondered if some of the new features for its use could be ported to the SGS3 which has a pretty decent screen size itself.

the note has an active digitiser like a wacom built in so no the pen will not work with any pure capacitive displays. I'm sure you could get it to work on an old resistive touch phone tho...

Everything about it looks awesome so far.
Next question... DACs.

Although, it might be worth going the NZTechFreak route and get a proper USB DAC.

sadler: Does anyone know how well the original Note sold in NZ? This would be a good indicator as to whether this will be another Vodafone exclusive device for NZ release.

Well I dont know the number - but if you wander down Queen Street you see them pretty often - Seem quite popular with young ladies curiously enough. I suppose they have handbags to pop them in when not using them?

1. I wonder if note2 battery can be used in note1

2. I wont be upgrading this time (no major advantage for me yet)

3. I was at auckland airport 3 weeks ago. There were at least 5-6 peoples around me with note in their hand.

This is just speculation, but I expect a Wolfson in there since all of Samsung's recent high-end devices have had them. That doesn't assure great or even good sound though, a lot rests on the implementation (as anyone who has heard a Galaxy S pre- and post-Voodoo can attest). Would hope we will see a Voodoo Report from Supercurio before long.

If you're really serious about the audio a USB DAC isn't a bad investment, can be be used with your netbook/laptop/desktop, as well (presumably) all high-end Samsung devices going forward and hopefully most Android devices if the non-standard USB audio set-up in Jelly Bean gets fixed (there are already fixes for custom kernels on the N7).

Definitely a decent upgrade from the first Note but looks more like a GS3 Large than a separate series.

Battery size increase looks enticing, But apart from that I think the best thing that will come from it will likely be a GS3 Price drop.

unlikely. gs3 and g-note have their own target market.

Has anybody hit up the three telcos on Twitter or Facebook to see if they can confirm if they'll be selling it?

They wouldn't tell you even if they were at this stage.

I use the pen function of my note sometimes, but only in lieu of scribbling things down on pen & paper. It's handy but I'd happily live without it.

I do however like the bigger screen, makes it so much easier to type on and read web pages.

I rely on the fact that the car dock for my Note is so good, if Samsungs pathetic dock for the S3 is any example, I might be waiting 3-4 months after the phone turns up only to discover that they release something fairly half-arsed again. Based on that, I'd probably get one, but it won't be until their (admittedly overpriced) accessories see the light of day.

Or, until a 3rd party actually makes a half decent one for a change.

However useful upgrades:

LTE - If/when Telecom sorts 4G out, this may hopefully be compatible with their network, dreams are free.
NFC - Missing from the Note, might be useful going forward if Google ever sorts their act out with the Wallet app for non-USA folks.
Detection when pen removed - Potentially auto triggering an over-lay of the S-Note app makes it a lot more useful.
Significantly bigger batter - Yay!
Faster CPU - Yay!
More RAM - Yay!

"You are" = "You're" - Not "Your".  "They are" = "They're" - Not "Their" or "There".  You probably mean "lose" not "loose".  There's no such word as "Alot".

I just placed my pre-order on Clove. 455GBP at this stage, plus postage and most likely GST when it arrives, so that should take it up to just over $1100.

At least with Clove they don't charge on pre-orders and you can cancel at any time so will wait and see what our telcos offer it for and then decide. I'm not in a contract and I don't like being on 24 month contracts so the full retail price is what matters to me.

BTW for those who care about such things - Supercurio confirms Wolfson DAC (but has yet to do a full break down from the Voodoo Report he was sent).

Was looking at the S3 but with the Note 2 coming soon think I will wait, the bigger screen is a seller for me.

Just called Vodafone but they have no idea of a release date, shame as apparently it is out in Europe and Asia today.

Hope I can get it soon, need a new phone and would rather get the Note 2 now than the S3.

Anyone heard anything of a release date?
